The story of the conversion of al-Tufayl b. Amr al-Dawsi

Translation

✧ The conversion of al-Tufayl b. Amr al-Dawsi: Al-Tufayl b. Amr al-Dawsi also converted. He had been a poet. Quraysh had warned him against listening to the Prophet ﷺ, frightening him that he was a sorcerer who separates a man from his wife, until the matter reached the point that he put something in his ear to deafen it from listening. But when God willed guidance and right direction for him, He made him listen to some of what the Prophet ﷺ recited. He returned to himself and blamed himself: how could he be an intelligent poet and then not examine what the Messenger ﷺ says? If it was good, he would know it; if it was otherwise, he would leave it and not listen to him. When he heard the speech of the Prophet ﷺ and knew that it was the truth, he asked the Prophet ﷺ that God make for him a sign. He made for him a light in his whip. He returned to his people and remained among them calling them to God until they converted.
