The emigration to Abyssinia and what occurred therein
[ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ وَحُلَفَائِهِمْ ] فَكَانَ مِمَّنْ قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ مَكَّةَ مِنْهُمْ، فَأَقَامَ بِهَا حَتَّى هَاجَرَ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَشَهِدَ مَعَهُ بَدْرًا ( وَأُحُدًا ) وَمَنْ حُبِسَ عَنْهُ حَتَّى فَاتَهُ بَدْرٌ وَغَيْرُهُ، وَمَنْ مَاتَ بِمَكَّةَ مِنْهُمْ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ قُصَيٍّ: عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، ( وَ ) مَعَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ رُقَيَّةُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ. وَأَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، ( وَ ) امْرَأَتُهُ سَهْلَةُ بِنْتُ سُهَيْلٍ ( بْنِ عَمْرٍو ) وَمِنْ حُلَفَائِهِمْ: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَحْشِ بْنِ رِئَابٍ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي نَوْفَلٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي نَوْفَلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ: عُتْبَةُ بْنُ غَزْوَانَ، حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ، مِنْ قَيْسِ ( بْنِ ) عَيْلَانَ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي أَسَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ قُصَيٍّ: الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ بْنِ خُوَيْلِدِ بْنِ أَسَدٍ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الدَّارِ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الدَّارِ بْنِ قُصَيٍّ: مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ هَاشِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ، ( بْنِ عَبْدِ الدَّارِ ) وَسُوَيْبِطُ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ بْنِ قُصَيٍّ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ بْنِ قُصَيٍّ: طُلَيْبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ وَهْبِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ. وَمِنْ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ بْنِ كِلَابٍ: عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ عَوْفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ ( بْنِ ) الْحَارِثِ بْنِ زُهْرَةَ وَالْمِقْدَادُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو. حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي مَخْزُومٍ وَحُلَفَائِهِمْ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي مَخْزُومِ بْنِ يَقَظَةَ: أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَسَدِ بْنِ هِلَالِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَخْزُومٍ، مَعَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ بِنْتُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، وَشَمَّاسُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ بْنِ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ هَرْمِيِّ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ مَخْزُومٍ وَسَلَمَةُ بْنُ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَبَسَهُ عَمُّهُ بِمَكَّةَ، فَلَمْ يَقْدَمْ إلَّا بَعْدَ بَدْرٍ وَأُحُدٍ وَالْخَنْدَقِ، وَعَيَّاشُ بْنُ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، هَاجَرَ مَعَهُ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، وَلَحِقَ بَهْ أَخَوَاهُ لِأُمِّهِ: أَبُو جَهْلِ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، فَرَجَعَا بِهِ إلَى مَكَّةَ فَحَبَسَاهُ بِهَا حَتَّى مَضَى بَدْرٌ وَأُحُدٌ وَالْخَنْدَقُ. وَمِنْ حُلَفَائِهِمْ: عُمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ، يُشَكُّ فِيهِ، أَكَانَ خَرَجَ إلَى الْحَبَشَةِ أَمْ لَا ؟ وَمُعَتِّبُ بْنُ عَوْفِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي جُمَحٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي جُمَحِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ هُصَيْصِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونِ بْنِ حَبِيبِ بْنِ وَهْبِ بْنِ حُذَافَةَ بْنِ جُمَحٍ. وَابْنُهُ السَّائِبُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، وَقُدَامَةُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي سَهْمٍ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي سَهْمِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ هُصَيْصِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: خُنَيْسُ بْنُ حُذَافَةَ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ، وَهِشَامُ بْنُ الْعَاصِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ، حُبِسَ بِمَكَّةَ بَعْدَ هِجْرَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ حَتَّى قَدِمَ بَعْدَ بَدْرٍ وَأُحُدٍ وَالْخَنْدَقِ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي عَدِيٍّ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي عَدِيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: عَامِرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، حَلِيفٌ لَهُمْ، وَمَعَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ لَيْلَى بِنْتُ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ ( بْنِ حُذَافَةَ ) بْنِ غَانِمٍ. [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرٍ وَحُلَفَائِهِمْ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ: عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ: وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، وَكَانَ حُبِسَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ هَاجَرَ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، حَتَّى كَانَ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ، فَانْحَازَ مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ إلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَشَهِدَ مَعَهُ بَدْرًا، وَأَبُو سَبْرَةَ بْنُ أَبِي رُهْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى، مَعَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ أُمُّ كُلْثُومِ بِنْتُ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، وَالسَّكْرَانُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، مَعَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ سَوْدَةُ بِنْتُ زَمْعَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، مَاتَ بِمَكَّةَ قَبْلَ هِجْرَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَخَلَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى امْرَأَتِهِ سَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ. وَمِنْ حُلَفَائِهِمْ: سَعْدُ بْنُ خَوْلَةَ [ مَنْ عَادَ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ ] وَمِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ فِهْرٍ: أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ، وَهُوَ عَامِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ أَبِي شَدَّادٍ وَسُهَيْلُ بْنُ بَيْضَاءَ، وَهُوَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ وَهْبِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، وَعَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي سَرْحِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ هِلَالٍ. [ عَدَدُ الْعَائِدِينَ مِنْ الْحَبَشَةِ، وَمَنْ دَخَلَ مِنْهُمْ فِي جِوَارٍ ] فَجَمِيعُ مَنْ قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ مَكَّةَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ مِنْ أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ ثَلَاثَةٌ وَثَلَاثُونَ رَجُلًا
Translation
✧ [Those who returned from among Banū ʿAbd Shams and their allies] Among them, those who came to him in Makkah and remained there until they emigrated to al-Madīnah, and thus witnessed Badr (and Uḥud) with him, and those who were detained from it such that Badr and other events passed them by, and those who died in Makkah among them from Banū ʿAbd Shams b. ʿAbd Manāf b. Quṣayy: ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān b. Abī al-ʿĀṣ b. Umayyah b. ʿAbd Shams, (and) with him his wife Ruqayyah bt. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. And Abū Ḥudhayfah b. ʿUtbah b. Rabīʿah b. ʿAbd Shams, (and) his wife Sahlah bt. Suhayl (b. ʿAmr). And from their allies: ʿAbd Allāh b. Jaḥsh b. Riʾāb. [Those who returned from among Banū Nawfal] And from Banū Nawfal b. ʿAbd Manāf: ʿUtbah b. Ghazwān, an ally of theirs, from Qays (b.) ʿAylān. [Those who returned from among Banū Asad] And from Banū Asad b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. Quṣayy: al-Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām b. Khuwaylid b. Asad. [Those who returned from among Banū ʿAbd al-Dār] And from Banū ʿAbd al-Dār b. Quṣayy: Muṣʿab b. ʿUmayr b. Hāshim b. ʿAbd Manāf, (b. ʿAbd al-Dār) and Suwaybiṭ b. Saʿd b. Ḥarmalah. [Those who returned from among Banū ʿAbd b. Quṣayy] And from Banū ʿAbd b. Quṣayy: Ṭulayb b. ʿUmayr b. Wahb b. ʿAbd. And from Banū Zuhrah b. Kilāb: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf b. ʿAbd ʿAwf b. ʿAbd (b.) al-Ḥārith b. Zuhrah, and al-Miqdād b. ʿAmr, an ally of theirs, and ʿAbd Allāh b. Masʿūd, an ally of theirs. [Those who returned from among Banū Makhzūm and their allies] And from Banū Makhzūm b. Yaqaẓah: Abū Salamah b. ʿAbd al-Asad b. Hilāl b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr b. Makhzūm, with him his wife Umm Salamah bt. Abū Umayyah b. al-Mughīrah, and Shammās b. ʿUthmān b. al-Sharīd b. Suwayd b. Harmī b. ʿĀmir b. Makhzūm, and Salamah b. Hishām b. al-Mughīrah; his uncle detained him in Makkah, so he did not arrive until after Badr, Uḥud, and al-Khandaq. And ʿAyyāsh b. Abī Rabīʿah b. al-Mughīrah; he emigrated with him to al-Madīnah, and his maternal brothers caught up with him: Abū Jahl b. Hishām and al-Ḥārith b. Hishām, and they took him back to Makkah and detained him there until Badr, Uḥud, and al-Khandaq had passed. And from their allies: ʿAmmār b. Yāsir, regarding whom there is doubt as to whether he went out to Abyssinia or not. And Muʿattib b. ʿAwf b. ʿĀmir from Khuzāʿah. [Those who returned from among Banū Jumaḥ] And from Banū Jumaḥ b. ʿAmr b. Huṣayṣ b. Kaʿb: ʿUthmān b. Maẓʿūn b. Ḥabīb b. Wahb b. Ḥudhāfah b. Jumaḥ, and his son al-Sāʾib b. ʿUthmān, and Qudāmah b. Maẓʿūn, and ʿAbd Allāh b. Maẓʿūn. [Those who returned from among Banū Sahm] And from Banū Sahm b. ʿAmr b. Huṣayṣ b. Kaʿb: Khunays b. Ḥudhāfah b. Qays b. ʿAdī, and Hishām b. al-ʿĀṣ b. Wāʾil; he was detained in Makkah after the emigration of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to al-Madīnah until he arrived after Badr, Uḥud, and al-Khandaq. [Those who returned from among Banū ʿAdī] And from Banū ʿAdī b. Kaʿb: ʿĀmir b. Rabīʿah, an ally of theirs, and with him his wife Laylā bt. Abī Ḥathmah (b. Ḥudhāfah) b. Ghānim. [Those who returned from among Banū ʿĀmir and their allies] And from Banū ʿĀmir b. Luʾayy: ʿAbd Allāh b. Makhramah b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. Abī Qays, and ʿAbd Allāh b. Suhayl b. ʿAmr; he was detained from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he emigrated to al-Madīnah, until the day of Badr, when he defected from the polytheists to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and witnessed Badr with him. And Abū Sabrah b. Abī Ruhm b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā, with him his wife Umm Kulthūm bt. Suhayl b. ʿAmr. And al-Sakrān b. ʿAmr b. ʿAbd Shams, with him his wife Sawdah bt. Zamʿah b. Qays; he died in Makkah before the emigration of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to al-Madīnah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married his wife Sawdah bt. Zamʿah. And from their allies: Saʿd b. Khawlah. [Those who returned from among Banū al-Ḥārith] And from Banū al-Ḥārith b. Fihr: Abū ʿUbaydah b. al-Jarrāḥ, who is ʿĀmir b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Jarrāḥ, and ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith b. Zuhayr b. Abī Shaddād, and Suhayl b. Bayḍāʾ, who is Suhayl b. Wahb b. Rabīʿah b. Hilāl, and ʿAmr b. Abī Sarḥ b. Rabīʿah b. Hilāl. [The number of those who returned from Abyssinia, and those among them who entered into protection] The total number of his companions who came to him in Makkah from the land of Abyssinia was thirty-three men.
