Mention of some of the harm the Messenger of Allah ﷺ suffered from his people
[ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، وَمَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فِيهِ ] وَالْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، قَالَ: أَيُنَزَّلُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَأُتْرَكُ وَأَنَا كَبِيرُ قُرَيْشٍ وَسَيِّدُهَا وَيُتْرَكُ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ سَيِّدُ ثَقِيفٍ، وَنَحْنُ عَظِيمَا الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فِيهِ، فِيمَا بَلَغَنِي: وَقَالُوا لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَذَا الْقُرْآنُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ إلَى قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: مِمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ
Translation
✧ [al-Walīd b. al-Mughīrah, and what Allah, Exalted is He, revealed concerning him] And al-Walīd b. al-Mughīrah said: "Is it sent down upon Muḥammad while I am left aside, though I am the elder of Quraysh and its chief, and Abū Masʿūd ʿAmr b. ʿUmayr al-Thaqafī, the chief of Thaqīf, is left aside, while we are the two great ones of the two towns?" So Allah, Exalted is He, revealed concerning him, as has reached me: "And they said, 'Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon a great man from one of the two towns?'" up to His saying, Exalted is He: "...of what they amass."
