The reports of the Jewish rabbis, Christian monks, and soothsayers and their glad tidings of the sending of the Beloved of the Most Merciful ﷺ

Translation

✧ (He said): I had something I had collected, and when evening came I took it and went with it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in Qubāʾ. I entered upon him and said to him: It has reached me that you are a righteous man, and with you are companions who are strangers and in need, and this is something I had for charity, and I saw you as more deserving of it than others. He said: So I brought it near to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his companions: Eat, and he withheld his hand and did not eat. He said: So I said to myself: This is one. Then I left him and collected something, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ moved to Madinah. Then I came to him with it and said to him: I saw that you do not eat charity, and this is a gift with which I have honored you. He said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate from it and ordered his companions, and they ate with him. He said: So I said to myself: These are two. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was at Baqīʿ al-Gharqad, having followed the funeral of a man from his companions, and I had two cloaks on, and he was sitting among his companions. I greeted him, then turned around to look at his back to see if I could see the seal which my companion had described to me. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw me turning my back, he knew that I was seeking confirmation of something described to me, so he threw his mantle from his back, and I looked at the seal and recognized it. Then I fell upon him, kissing him and weeping. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: Turn around. So I turned and sat before him, and I related to him my story just as I have related it to you, O Ibn ʿAbbās. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was pleased that his companions should hear that. Then slavery occupied Salmān until he missed Badr and Uḥud with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
