The story of the creation of Adam (peace be upon him)
وِلَادَةِ شِيثٍ وطَافَ آدَمَ طَافَ عَلَى امْرَأَتِهِ فَوَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا وَدَعَتِ اسْمَهُ شِيثَ، وَقَالَتْ: مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُ قَدْ وُهِبَ لِي خَلَفًا مِنْ هَابِيلَ الَّذِي قَتَلَهُ قَابِيلُ. وَوُلِدَ لِشِيثَ أَنُوشُ. قَالُوا: وَكَانَ عُمُرُ آدَمَ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ لَهُ شِيثُ مِائَةً وَثَلَاثِينَ سَنَةً، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ، وَكَانَ عُمُرُ شِيثَ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ لَهُ أَنُوشُ مِائَةً وَخَمْسًا وَسِتِّينَ، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ وَسَبْعِ سِنِينَ، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ غَيْرُ أَنُوشَ، فَوُلِدَ لِأَنُوشَ قَيْنَانُ، وَلَهُ مِنَ الْعُمُرِ تِسْعُونَ سَنَةً، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ وَخَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمْرُ قَيْنَانَ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةً وُلِدَ لَهُ مَهْلَائِيلُ، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ لِمَهْلَائِيلَ مِنَ الْعُمُرِ خَمْسٌ وَسِتُّونَ سَنَةً وُلِدَ لَهُ يَرْدُ، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِمِائَةٍ وَثَلَاثِينَ سَنَةً، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ فَلَمَّا كَانَ لِيَرْدَ مِائَةُ سَنَةٍ وَاثْنَتَانِ وَسِتُّونَ سَنَةً وُلِدَ لَهُ خَنُوخُ، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ فَلَمَّا كَانَ لِخَنُوخَ خَمْسٌ وَسِتُّونَ سَنَةً وُلِدَ لَهُ مَتُّوشَلَخُ، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ فَلَمَّا كَانَ لِمَتُّوشَلَخَ مِائَةٌ وَسَبْعٌ وَثَمَانُونَ سَنَةً وُلِدَ لَهُ لَامَكُ، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ سَبْعَمِائَةٍ وَاثْنَيْنِ وَثَمَانِينَ سَنَةً، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ لِلَامَكَ مِنَ الْعُمُرِ مِائَةٌ وَاثْنَتَانِ وَثَمَانُونَ سَنَةً وُلِدَ لَهُ نُوحٌ، وَعَاشَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ خَمْسَمِائَةٍ، وَخَمْسًا وَتِسْعِينَ سَنَةً، وَوُلِدَ لَهُ بَنُونَ وَبَنَاتٌ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ لِنُوحَ خَمْسُمِائَةِ سَنَةٍ وُلِدَ لَهُ بِنُونَ ; سَامٌ، وَحَامٌ، وَيَافِثُ. هَذَا مَضْمُونُ مَا فِي كِتَابِهِمْ صَرِيحًا. وَفِي كَوْنِ هَذِهِ التَّوَارِيخِ مَحْفُوظَةً فِيمَا نَزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ نَظَرٌ، كَمَا ذَكَرَهُ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ الْعُلَمَاءِ طَاعِنِينَ عَلَيْهِمْ فِي ذَلِكَ، وَالظَّاهِرُ أَنَّهَا مُقْحَمَةٌ فِيهَا.
Translation
✧ The Birth of Seth Adam went in unto his wife and she bore a boy, and she called his name Seth, saying, 'Because a substitute has been granted to me in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.' And to Seth was born Enosh. They said: Adam's age on the day Seth was born to him was one hundred and thirty years, and he lived after that eight hundred years. Seth's age on the day Enosh was born to him was one hundred and sixty-five, and he lived after that eight hundred and seven years, and sons and daughters were born to him besides Enosh. To Enosh was born Kenan when he was ninety years old, and he lived after that eight hundred and fifteen years, and sons and daughters were born to him. When Kenan was seventy years old, Mahalalel was born to him, and he lived after that eight hundred and forty years, and sons and daughters were born to him. When Mahalalel was sixty-five years old, Jared was born to him, and he lived after that eight hundred and thirty years, and sons and daughters were born to him. When Jared was one hundred and sixty-two years old, Enoch was born to him, and he lived after that eight hundred years, and sons and daughters were born to him. When Enoch was sixty-five years old, Methuselah was born to him, and he lived after that eight hundred years, and sons and daughters were born to him. When Methuselah was one hundred and eighty-seven years old, Lamech was born to him, and he lived after that seven hundred and eighty-two years, and sons and daughters were born to him. When Lamech was one hundred and eighty-two years old, Noah was born to him, and he lived after that five hundred and ninety-five years, and sons and daughters were born to him. When Noah was five hundred years old, sons were born to him: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This is the substance of what is in their book explicitly. There is doubt as to whether these chronologies were preserved in what came down from heaven, as more than one of the scholars mentioned, impugning them concerning that, and it is apparent that they were inserted into them.
