Translation
✧ [ The assumption of authority over the House by Quṣayy and the support of Rizāḥ for him ] Quṣayy saw that he was more entitled to the Kaʿbah and to the affairs of Makkah than Khuzāʿah and the Banū Bakr, and that the Quraysh were the pure stock of Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm and his true descendants. He spoke to some men of the Quraysh and the Banū Kinānah, inviting them to expel Khuzāʿah and the Banū Bakr from Makkah, and they responded to him. Rabīʿah b. Ḥarām of ʿUdhrah b. Saʿd b. Zayd had come to Makkah after the death of Kilāb, and he married Fāṭimah bt. Saʿd b. Sayal, while Zuhrah was then a grown man and Quṣayy a weaned child. He took her away to his own lands, and she carried Quṣayy with her, while Zuhrah stayed behind. She bore to Rabīʿah a son named Rizāḥ. When Quṣayy grew up and became a man, he came to Makkah and settled there. When his people responded to his call, he wrote to his maternal brother, Rizāḥ b. Rabīʿah, summoning him to support him and stand with him. Rizāḥ b. Rabīʿah set out, accompanied by his brothers: Ḥunn b. Rabīʿah, Maḥmūd b. Rabīʿah, and Julhumah b. Rabīʿah – these being from other wives than Fāṭimah – together with those of Quḍāʿah who followed them among the Arab pilgrims, all resolved to support Quṣayy. Khuzāʿah claim that Ḥulayl b. Ḥubshiyyah bequeathed that to Quṣayy and commanded him to it when his offspring from his daughter had multiplied. He said: You are more entitled to the Kaʿbah, to its guardianship, and to the affairs of Makkah than Khuzāʿah. It was then that Quṣayy sought what he sought. We have not heard this from anyone other than them, and Allah knows best which of the two was the case.
