Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
[ هَزِيمَةُ ذِي نَفْرٍ أَمَامَ أَبْرَهَةَ ] فَخَرَجَ إلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَشْرَافِ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ وَمُلُوكِهِمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ: ذُو نَفْرٍ، فَدَعَا قَوْمَهُ، وَمَنْ أَجَابَهُ مِنْ سَائِرِ الْعَرَبِ إلَى حَرْبِ أَبْرَهَةَ، وَجِهَادِهِ عَنْ بَيْتِ اللَّهِ الْحَرَامِ، وَمَا يُرِيدُ مِنْ هَدْمِهِ وَإِخْرَابِهِ؛ فَأَجَابَهُ إلَى ذَلِكَ مَنْ أَجَابَهُ، ثُمَّ عَرَضَ لَهُ فَقَاتَلَهُ، فَهُزِمَ ذُو نَفْرٍ وَأَصْحَابُهُ، وَأُخِذَ لَهُ ذُو نَفْرٍ فَأُتِيَ بِهِ أَسِيرًا، فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ قَتْلَهُ قَالَ لَهُ ذُو نَفْرٍ: أَيُّهَا الْمَلِكُ، لَا تَقْتُلْنِي فَإِنَّهُ عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ بَقَائِي مَعَكَ خَيْرًا لَكَ مِنْ قَتْلِي، فَتَرَكَهُ مِنْ الْقَتْلِ وَحَبَسَهُ عِنْدَهُ فِي وَثَاقٍ، وَكَانَ أَبْرَهَةُ رَجُلًا حَلِيمًا.
Translation
✧ [The Defeat of Dhū Nafar before Abrahah] A man from the nobles of the people of Yemen and their kings, called Dhū Nafar, went out against him. He summoned his people and those of the rest of the Arabs who answered him to fight Abrahah and to strive in defense of the Sacred House of God, and against his intention to demolish and ruin it. Those who answered him responded to that. Then he confronted him and fought him, and Dhū Nafar and his companions were defeated. Dhū Nafar was captured for him and brought as a prisoner. When he wanted to kill him, Dhū Nafar said to him, "O king, do not kill me, for perhaps my remaining with you may be better for you than killing me." So he spared him from execution and imprisoned him in his custody in bonds. Abrahah was a forbearing man.
