Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
[ رئَامٌ وَمَا صَارَ إلَيْهِ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَكَانَ رِئَامٌ بَيْتًا لَهُمْ يُعَظِّمُونَهُ، وَيَنْحَرُونَ عِنْدَهُ، وَيَكَلَّمُونَ ( مِنْهُ ) إذْ كَانُوا عَلَى شِرْكِهِمْ ؟ فَقَالَ الْحَبْرَانِ لِتُبَّعِ: إنَّمَا هُوَ شَيْطَانٌ يَفْتِنُهُمْ بِذَلِكَ فَخَلِّ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُ، قَالَ: فَشَأْنُكُمَا بِهِ، فَاسْتَخْرَجَا مِنْهُ - فِيمَا يَزْعُمُ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ - كَلْبًا أَسْوَدَ فَذَبَحَاهُ، ثُمَّ هَدَمَا ذَلِكَ الْبَيْتَ فَبَقَايَاهُ الْيَوْمَ - كَمَا ذُكِرَ لِي - بِهَا آثَارُ الدِّمَاءِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تُهْرَاقُ عَلَيْهِ.
Translation
✧ [Riʾām and what became of it] Ibn Isḥāq said: Riʾām was a house of theirs which they venerated, at which they sacrificed, and from which they were addressed while they remained in their polytheism. The two rabbis said to Tubbaʿ: “It is only a devil that seduces them by that; leave us alone with it.” He said: “Your affair be with it.” So they brought out of it—as the people of Yemen claim—a black dog and slaughtered it, then demolished that house. Its remnants today—as was mentioned to me—bear traces of the blood that used to be poured upon it.
