Translation
✧ [The deliverance of ʿAbd Allāh from the slaughter] So they went out until they came to Makkah. When they had agreed upon that matter, ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they brought forward ʿAbd Allāh and ten camels, while ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood by Hubal calling upon Allāh, Mighty and Majestic. Then they cast (the divining arrows), and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels twenty, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh, Mighty and Majestic. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels thirty, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels forty, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels fifty, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels sixty, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels seventy, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels eighty, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels ninety, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against ʿAbd Allāh. So they added ten camels, making the camels one hundred, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh. Then they cast, and the arrow came out against the camels. Quraysh and those present said: "The pleasure of your Lord has been reached, O ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib." They claimed that ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib said: "No, by Allāh, not until I cast for it three times." So they cast for ʿAbd Allāh and the camels, and ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib stood up calling upon Allāh, and the arrow came out against the camels. Then they repeated a second time, with ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib standing calling upon Allāh. They cast, and the arrow came out against the camels. Then they repeated a third time, with ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib standing calling upon Allāh. They cast, and the arrow came out against the camels. So they were slaughtered, then left, no human being being turned away from them nor prevented. Ibn Hishām said: It is said: no human being and no wild beast. Ibn Hishām said: Among the folds of this narrative there is a rajaz poem which has not been established as authentic with us from any of the people of knowledge in poetry.
