Translation
✧ Then the year 368 AH began Account of the conquest of Mayyafariqin, Amid, and other places in Diyar Bakr at the hand of ʿAdud al-Dawla When Abu al-Wafaʾ returned from pursuing Abu Taghlib, he encamped at Mayyafariqin. The governor there was Hazarmard, who held the town firmly and fought fiercely against Abu al-Wafaʾ for three months. Then Hazarmard died, and Abu Taghlib was written to about that. He ordered that a ghulam of the Hamdanids named Muʾnis be appointed in his place; so he took charge of the town. Abu al-Wafaʾ had no stratagem to take it, so he turned away from it and sent a man of the town's notables named Ahmad b. ʿUbayd Allah, and he won him over, and he responded to him. He began to win over the populace to Abu al-Wafaʾ, and they responded to him in that, and his affair became great. He sent to Muʾnis asking for a guarantee of safety for him, and Ahmad b. ʿUbayd Allah sent to Abu al-Wafaʾ about that, and he granted him safety and granted safety to the rest of the townspeople. Then he opened the town to him and surrendered it to him. During the time Abu al-Wafaʾ was encamped at Mayyafariqin, he had sent out his raiding parties to the neighboring fortresses, and he conquered all of them. When Abu Taghlib heard of that, he departed from Amid toward al-Rahba, he and his sister Jamila, and he ordered some of his family to seek safety from Abu al-Wafaʾ, and they did so. Then Abu al-Wafaʾ marched to Amid and besieged it. When its people saw that, they followed the course of the people of Mayyafariqin, and they surrendered the town under a guarantee of safety. Abu al-Wafaʾ thus took possession of all of Diyar Bakr. Abu Taghlib's companions and family came to him seeking safety, and he granted them safety and treated them well, then returned to al-Mawsil. As for Abu Taghlib, when he headed for al-Rahba, he sent a messenger to ʿAdud al-Dawla seeking to win his favor and asking for pardon. He gave a good answer to the messengers and offered him a satisfactory land grant on condition that he come to his court, but Abu Taghlib did not agree to that, and he marched to Syria, to al-ʿAziz bi-llah, the ruler of Egypt. Account of the conquest of Diyar Mudar at the hand of ʿAdud al-Dawla The governor of Diyar Mudar for Abu Taghlib b. Hamdan was Salama al-Barqaʿidi. Saʿd al-Dawla b. Sayf al-Dawla sent an army against him from Aleppo, and wars took place between them. Saʿd al-Dawla had written to ʿAdud al-Dawla and offered himself to him, so ʿAdud al-Dawla sent the naqib Abu Ahmad, the father of al-Radi, to the lands held by Salama, and he took them over after a fierce war. Their people entered into obedience. ʿAdud al-Dawla took al-Raqqa for himself alone and returned the rest of them to Saʿd al-Dawla, so they became his. Then ʿAdud al-Dawla took possession of al-Rahba, and after that he devoted himself to conquering its fortresses and strongholds, which were Qalʿat Kawashi, where his treasuries and wealth were, and Qalʿat Harur, al-Malasi, Burqa, al-Shaʿbani, and other fortresses. When he had taken possession of all of Abu Taghlib's territories, he appointed Abu al-Wafaʾ as his deputy over al-Mawsil, and he returned to Baghdad at the end of Dhu al-Qaʿda. Al-Taʾiʿ li-llah met him, along with a group of soldiers and others.
