Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors

[ أَوْلَادُ فِهْرٍ وَأُمَّهَاتُهُمْ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: فَوَلَدَ فِهْرُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ أَرْبَعَةَ نَفَرٍ: غَالِبَ بْنَ فِهْرٍ، وَمُحَارِبَ بْنَ فِهْرٍ، وَالْحَارِثَ بْنَ فِهْرٍ، وَأَسَدَ بْنَ فِهْرٍ، وَأُمُّهُمْ لَيْلَى بِنْتُ سَعْدِ بْنِ هُذَيْلِ بْنِ مُدْرِكَةَ. قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَجَنْدَلَةُ بِنْتُ فِهْرٍ، وَهِيَ أُمُّ يَرْبُوعِ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ يَدِ مَنَاةَ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ، وَأُمُّهَا لَيْلَى بِنْتُ سَعْدٍ. قَالَ جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ الْخَطَفِيِّ - وَاسْمُ الْخَطَفِيِّ حُذَيْفَةُ بْنُ بَدْرِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ كُلَيْبِ بْنِ يَرْبُوعِ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ: وَإِذَا غَضِبْتُ رَمَى وَرَائِي بِالْحَصَى أَبْنَاءُ جَنْدَلَةٍ كَخَيْرِ الْجَنْدَلِ وَهَذَا الْبَيْتُ فِي قَصِيدَةٍ لَهُ.

Translation

✧ [The children of Fihr and their mothers] Ibn Isḥāq said: Fihr b. Mālik begot four individuals: Ghālib b. Fihr, Muḥārib b. Fihr, al-Ḥārith b. Fihr, and Asad b. Fihr. Their mother was Laylā bt. Saʿd b. Hudhayl b. Mudrikah. Ibn Hishām said: And Jandalah bt. Fihr, who was the mother of Yarbūʿ b. Ḥanẓalah b. Mālik b. Yad Manāt b. Tamīm. Her mother was Laylā bt. Saʿd. Jarīr b. ʿAṭiyyah b. al-Khaṭafī said—and the name of al-Khaṭafī is Ḥudhayfah b. Badr b. Salamah b. ʿAwf b. Kulayb b. Yarbūʿ b. Ḥanẓalah: And when I grow angry, the sons of Jandalah pelt behind me with pebbles, like the best of stones. This verse is in a qaṣīdah by him.
