Then the year 362 AH began
وَفِي سَنَةِ اثْنَيْنِ وَسِتِّينَ: صَادَرَ السُّلْطَانُ بَخْتِيَارُ الْمُطِيعَ، فَقَالَ الْمُطِيعُ: أَنَا لَيْسَ لِي غَيْرُ الْخُطْبَةِ، فَإِنْ أَحْبَبْتُمُ... اعْتَزَلَتْ، فَشَدَّدَ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى بَاعَ قُمَاشَهُ، وَحَمَلَ أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، وَشَاعَ فِي الْأَلْسِنَةِ أَنَّ الْخَلِيفَةَ صُودِرَ.
Translation
✧ In the year 362 AH: the Sultan Bakhtiyār confiscated the property of al-Muṭīʿ. Al-Muṭīʿ said: “I have nothing but the khuṭbah, and if you wish… I shall withdraw from it.” So he [Bakhtiyār] pressed him hard until he sold his own household furnishings and paid four hundred thousand dirhams. It became commonly said that the caliph had been subjected to confiscation.
