Translation

✧ Mention of the strife in Sicily In this year al-Muʿizz li-Dīn Allāh (the ʿAlawī caliph) appointed over the island of Sicily Yaʿīsh, a mawlā of al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī al-Ḥusayn. He gathered the tribes in the house of industry, and evil broke out between the mawālī of Kutāma and the tribes, so they fought. Many of the mawālī of Kutāma were killed, and a group of the mawālī were killed in the area of Sarqūsa. The evil among them increased, enmity took hold, and Yaʿīsh sought reconciliation, but they did not agree with him. The people of evil from every side grew bold, looted, and caused corruption. They were audacious toward the people of the pastures, and they were audacious toward the people of the granted fortresses. The news reached al-Muʿizz, so he dismissed Yaʿīsh and appointed Abū al-Qāsim b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī al-Ḥusayn as deputy on behalf of his brother Aḥmad. He traveled there, and when he arrived, the people rejoiced in him, and the evil ceased among them, and they agreed upon obedience to him.
