Translation
✧ Mention of the Romans' possession of the city of Aleppo and their withdrawal from it. When the Romans took Antioch, they sent a dense army to Aleppo. Abū al-Maʿālī Sharīf b. Sayf al-Dawlah was besieging it, while Qarghawayh al-Sayfī was in it, having overpowered it. When Abū al-Maʿālī heard news of them, he departed from Aleppo and headed for the desert to distance himself from them. They besieged the town, in which Qarghawayh and the townspeople had fortified themselves in the citadel. The Romans took the city and besieged the citadel. A group of the people of Aleppo went out to them and mediated between them and Qarghawayh. Messengers went back and forth, and the matter was settled between them on a perpetual truce, on condition of money that Qarghawayh would carry to them, and that if the Romans wanted to raid, Qarghawayh would not enable the people of the villages to evacuate them, so that the Romans might purchase what they needed from them. With Aleppo were Ḥamāh, Ḥimṣ, Kafr Ṭāb, al-Maʿarrah, Afāmiyah, Shayzar, and the fortresses and villages between them. They handed over hostages to the Romans, and they withdrew from Aleppo, and the Muslims took possession of it.
