✧ The rebellion of Ḥubshī b. Muʿizz al-Dawlah against Bakhtiyār in al-Baṣrah, and his capture by force In this year, Ḥubshī b. Muʿizz al-Dawlah rebelled against his brother Bakhtiyār. He was in al-Baṣrah (when his father died, and those of his companions who were with him made the idea of sole rule over al-Baṣrah appealing to him), and they told him that his brother Bakhtiyār would not be able to set out against him. So he embarked upon that. The news reached his brother, who sent his vizier Abū al-Faḍl al-ʿAbbās b. al-Ḥusayn to him, ordering him to seize him however possible. The vizier let it be known that he wanted to go down to al-Ahwāz. When he reached Wāsiṭ, he stayed there to set its affairs in order, and he wrote to Ḥubshī promising to hand over al-Baṣrah to him peacefully and to make a settlement with him over it, saying to him: 'I owe money on account of the vizierate, and I must have your help.' So Ḥubshī sent him two hundred thousand dirhams, and he was certain that al-Baṣrah would be his. The vizier sent to the army of al-Ahwāz, ordering them to march to al-Ubullah on a day he designated for them, and he himself moved from Wāsiṭ towards al-Baṣrah. He and the army of al-Ahwāz arrived there at their appointed time, and Ḥubshī was not able to set his affairs in order or attend to his needs, so they seized him and took him captive and imprisoned him in Rāmahurmuz. Then his paternal uncle Rukn al-Dawlah sent and freed him, and he went to ʿAḍud al-Dawlah, who granted him a generous fief. He remained with Rukn until he died at the end of the year 369. The vizier took a great deal of his wealth in al-Baṣrah, and among what he took for him were fifteen bound codices, besides unbound quires, covered volumes, and those without bindings.
