Then the year 355 AH began
ذِكْرُ مَا جَرَى لِمُعِزِّ الدَّوْلَةِ مَعَ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ شَاهِينَ قَدْ ذَكَرْنَا انْحِدَارَ مُعِزِّ الدَّوْلَةِ إِلَى وَاسِطَ لِأَجْلِ قَصْدِ وِلَايَةِ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ شَاهِينَ بِالْبَطَائِحِ، فَلَمَّا وَصَلَ إِلَى وَاسِطَ أَنْفَذَ الْجَيْشَ مَعَ أَبِي الْفَضْلِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، فَسَارُوا، فَنَزَلُوا الْجَامِدَةَ، وَشَرَعُوا فِي سَدِّ الْأَنْهَارِ الَّتِي تَصُبُّ إِلَى الْبَطَائِحِ. وَسَارَ مُعِزُّ الدَّوْلَةِ إِلَى الْأُبُلَّةِ، وَأَرْسَلَ الْجَيْشَ إِلَى عُمَانَ، عَلَى مَا ذَكَرْنَاهُ، وَعَادَ إِلَى وَاسِطَ لِإِتْمَامِ حَرْبِ عِمْرَانَ وَمِلْكِ بَلَدِهِ، فَأَقَامَ بِهَا، فَمَرِضَ، وَأَصْعَدَ إِلَى بَغْدَادَ لِلَيْلَتَيْنِ بَقِيَتَا مِنْ رَبِيعٍ الْأَوَّلِ ( سَنَةَ سِتٍّ وَخَمْسِينَ ) [ وَثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ وَهُوَ عَلِيلٌ، وَخَلَّفَ الْعَسْكَرَ بِهَا، وَوَعَدَهُمْ أَنَّهُ يَعُودُ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَلَمَّا وَصَلَ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ تُوُفِّيَ، عَلَى مَا نَذْكُرُهُ، فَدَعَتِ الضَّرُورَةُ إِلَى مُصَالَحَةِ عِمْرَانَ وَالِانْصِرَافِ عَنْهُ.
Translation
✧ Mention of what happened to Muʿizz al-Dawla with ʿImrān b. Shāhīn We have already mentioned Muʿizz al-Dawla's descent to Wāsiṭ for the purpose of attacking the wilayah of ʿImrān b. Shāhīn in al-Baṭāʾiḥ. When he reached Wāsiṭ, he dispatched the army with Abu al-Faḍl al-ʿAbbās b. al-Ḥasan. They marched and encamped at al-Jāmida and began blocking the rivers that flow into al-Baṭāʾiḥ. Muʿizz al-Dawla then went to al-Ubulla and sent the army to ʿUmān, as we have mentioned, and returned to Wāsiṭ to complete the war against ʿImrān and take possession of his territory. He stayed there, fell ill, and went up to Baghdad with two nights remaining of Rabīʿ al-Awwal in the year fifty-six and three hundred, being sick. He left the troops there and promised them he would return to them. When he reached Baghdād, he died, as we shall mention. Necessity therefore called for making peace with ʿImrān and withdrawing from him.
