Then the year 355 AH began

Translation

✧ Mention of the Byzantines' incursion into the lands of Islam In this year, in Shawwāl, the Byzantines came out and made for the city of Āmid. They encamped against it, besieged it, and fought its inhabitants. Three hundred of their men were killed, and about four hundred prisoners were taken, but they were unable to conquer it. They then turned to Dārā and drew near Naṣībīn, and a caravan coming from Mayyāfāriqīn met them, and they seized it. The people fled from Naṣībīn in fear of them, until the hire of a riding beast reached one hundred dirhams. Sayf al-Dawlah sent to the Bedouin to flee with them, and he was in Naṣībīn. It happened that the Byzantines returned before his flight, so he remained in his place. They marched from the Jazīrah region to Syria and encamped against Antioch. They remained there a long time fighting its inhabitants, but they were unable to conquer it, so they laid waste its countryside and plundered it, and then returned to Ṭarsūs.
