Then the year 355 AH began
فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ خَرَجَتْ بَنُو سُلَيْمٍ عَلَى الْحُجَّاجِ السَّائِرِينَ مِنْ مِصْرَ وَالشَّامِ ، وَكَانُوا عَالَمًا كَثِيرًا، وَمَعَهُمْ مِنَ الْأَمْوَالِ مَا لَا حَدَّ عَلَيْهِ لِأَنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنَ النَّاسِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الثُّغُورِ وَالشَّامِ هَرَبُوا مِنْ خَوْفِهِمْ مِنَ الرُّومِ، بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ، وَقَصَدُوا مَكَّةَ لِيَسِيرُوا مِنْهَا إِلَى الْعِرَاقِ، فَأُخِذُوا، وَمَاتَ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِي الْبَرِّيَّةِ مَا لَا يُحْصَى، وَلَمْ يَسْلَمْ إِلَّا الْقَلِيلُ.
Translation
✧ In this year, the Banū Sulaym rose up against the pilgrims traveling from Egypt and the Levant, and they were a great multitude, and with them was wealth beyond reckoning, because many people from the frontier regions and the Levant fled in fear of the Byzantines with their wealth and their families, and they made for Makkah in order to travel from there to Iraq, and they were seized, and people died in the wilderness beyond counting, and none escaped except a few.
