Then the year 354 AH began
فِي عَاشِرِ الْمُحَرَّمِ مِنْهَا عَمِلَتِ الشِّيعَةُ الْمَآتِمَ عَلَى مَا تَقَدَّمَ فِي السَّنَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ ، وَغُلِّقَتِ الْأَسْوَاقُ وَعُلِّقَتِ الْمُسُوحُ، وَخَرَجَتِ النِّسَاءُ سَافِرَاتٍ نَاشِرَاتٍ، يَنُحْنَ وَيَلْطُمْنَ وُجُوهَهُنَّ فِي الْأَسْوَاقِ وَالْأَزِقَّةِ، وَهَذَا تَكَلُّفٌ لَا حَاجَةَ إِلَيْهِ فِي الدِّينِ وَلَا فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَوْ كَانَ هَذَا أَمْرًا مَحْمُودًا لَكَانَ صَدْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ وَخِيرَتُهَا أَوْلَى بِهِ ; إِذْ لَوْ كَانَ خَيْرًا لَسَبَقُونَا إِلَيْهِ، وَأَهْلُ السُّنَّةِ يَقْتَدُونَ وَلَا يَبْتَدِعُونَ، وَتَسَلَّطَتْ أَهْلُ السُّنَّةِ عَلَى الرَّوَافِضِ، فَكَبَسُوا مَسْجِدَ بَرَاثَا الَّذِي هُوَ عُشُّ الرَّوَافِضِ، وَقَتَلُوا بَعْضَ مَنْ كَانَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْقَوَمَةِ. وَعُمِلَ يَوْمُ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ بِبَغْدَادَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ ذِكْرُهُ مِنْ إِشْعَالِ النَّارِ فِي لَيْلَتِهِ، وَضَرْبِ الدَّبَادِبِ وَالْبُوقَاتِ، وَبُكُورِ النَّاسِ إِلَى مَقَابِرِ قُرَيْشٍ.
Translation
✧ On the tenth of al-Muḥarram of this year, the Shīʿah held mourning rites as had occurred in the two preceding years. The markets were closed, sackcloth was hung, and the women went out unveiled, with disheveled hair, wailing and striking their faces in the markets and alleys. This is an affectation for which there is no need in religion or in this world. Had this been a praiseworthy matter, the early generations of this community and its best ones would have been more entitled to it; for had it been good, they would have preceded us to it. The people of the Sunnah follow and do not innovate. The Sunnīs gained the upper hand over the Rāfiḍah, raided the mosque of Barāthā, which is the nest of the Rāfiḍah, and killed some of the attendants who were in it. On the day of Ghadīr Khumm in Baghdad, what was previously mentioned was done: kindling fires in its night, beating of drums and trumpets, and people going early in the morning to the cemetery of Quraysh.
