Translation

✧ Mention of the conquest of Tabarmīn in Sicily In this year, the armies of the Muslims in Sicily, whose commander was Aḥmad b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī al-Ḥusayn, marched to the fortress of Tabarmīn, also in Sicily, which was in the hands of the Byzantines. They besieged it, and it was one of the most impregnable fortresses and the harshest against the Muslims. Its people held out, and the siege lasted against them. When the Muslims saw that, they went to the water that entered it and cut it off from them, diverting it to another place. The matter became grave for them, and they sought safe-conduct, but they were not granted it. They returned and asked that their blood be spared and that they become slaves to the Muslims, with their wealth as booty. They were granted that, and they were brought out of the town, and the Muslims took possession of it in Dhū al-Qaʿdah. The duration of the siege was seven and a half months. The fortress was settled by a group of Muslims, and it was named al-Muʿizziyyah, after al-Muʿizz al-ʿAlawī, ruler of Ifrīqiyah. An army marched to Ramṭah with al-Ḥasan b. ʿAmmār, and they besieged it and pressed hard upon it. What we will mention is in the year three hundred fifty-three.
