Compendium of Accounts of the Earlier Prophets
Translation
✧ In the ḥadīth: “We, the company of prophets, are not inherited from; whatever we leave is charity.” This is among the special qualities of the prophets, that they are not inherited from. That is only because this world is too insignificant in their sight to be left behind by them; and because their trust in Allah, Mighty and Majestic, regarding their offspring is greater, stronger, and more binding than that they should need, along with it, to leave for their heirs—after them—wealth by which they would exclude others. Rather, all that they leave is charity for the poor, the needy, and those in want.
