Translation

✧ Mention of the death of al-Marzubān In this year, in Ramaḍān, the Sallār al-Marzubān died in Adharbayjān, and he was its ruler. When he despaired of himself, he bequeathed the kingdom to his brother Wahsūdhān, and after him to his son Justān b. al-Marzubān. Al-Marzubān had previously instructed his deputies over the fortresses that after his death they should surrender them only to his son Justān; if he died, then to his son Ibrāhīm; if he died, then to his son Nāṣir; if none of them remained, then to his brother Wahsūdhān. When he made this bequest to his brother, he informed him of signs between him and his deputies in his fortresses so that he might receive them from them. When al-Marzubān died, his brother Wahsūdhān sent his seal and his signs to them, but they produced his first bequest. Wahsūdhān thought his brother had deceived him by that, so he stayed with his brother's sons, but they took sole control of the affair without him. He left Ardabīl like a fugitive to al-Ṭarm, and Justān took sole control of the affair. His brothers obeyed him, and he entrusted his vizierate to Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Nuʿaymī. His father's commanders came to him except Justān b. Sharmizan, for he resolved to seize control of Armenia, and he was its governor. Wahsūdhān began to sow corruption among his brother's sons, to divide their unity, and to make their enemies covet them, until he achieved what he wanted and some of them were killed.
