Then the year 343 AH began
وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ مَاتَ الْأَمِيرُ نُوحُ بْنُ نَصْرِ السَّامَانِيُّ فِي رَبِيعٍ الْآخَرِ، وَكَانَ يُلَقَّبُ بِالْأَمِيرِ الْحَمِيدِ، وَكَانَ حَسَنَ السِّيرَةِ، كَرِيمَ الْأَخْلَاقِ، وَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ، مَلَكَ بَعْدَهُ ابْنُهُ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ، ( وَكَانَ قَدِ اسْتَعْمَلَ بَكْرَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ عَلَى جُيُوشِ خُرَاسَانَ، كَمَا ذَكَرْنَا، فَمَاتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَسِيرَ بَكْرٌ إِلَى خُرَاسَانَ، فَقَامَ بَكْرٌ بِأَمْرِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ) بْنِ نُوحٍ، وَقَرَّرَ أَمْرَهُ، فَلَمَّا اسْتَقَرَّ حَالُهُ وَثَبَّتَ مُلْكَهُ، أَمَرَ بَكْرًا بِالْمَسِيرِ إِلَى خُرَاسَانَ، فَسَارَ إِلَيْهَا، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ مَعَ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ مَا قَدَّمْنَا ذِكْرَهُ.
Translation
✧ In this year, the amir Nūḥ b. Naṣr al-Sāmānī died in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir. He was titled al-Amīr al-Ḥamīd, and he was of good conduct and generous character. When he died, his son ʿAbd al-Malik became ruler after him. (He had appointed Bakr b. Mālik over the armies of Khurāsān, as we have mentioned, but he died before Bakr set out to Khurāsān. Bakr then took charge of the affair of ʿAbd al-Malik) b. Nūḥ and established his rule. When his situation became stable and his kingship was secured, he ordered Bakr to proceed to Khurāsān, so he set out for it. What happened between him and Abū ʿAlī is what we have previously mentioned.
