Translation

✧ Then the year 341 AH began. Account of the siege of al-Baṣrah. In this year Yūsuf b. Wajīh, lord of ʿAmmān, marched by sea and land to al-Baṣrah and besieged it. The reason for that was that when Muʿizz al-Dawlah took the desert route to al-Baṣrah, the Qarāmiṭah sent to him disapproving of that, and he answered them as we have mentioned. Yūsuf b. Wajīh learned of their alienation from Muʿizz al-Dawlah, so he wrote to them enticing them with al-Baṣrah, and asked them to support him from the landward side. They reinforced him with a large contingent of their men, and Yūsuf marched by sea. The news reached the vizier al-Muhallabī, who had just finished with al-Ahwāz and reviewing its affairs, so he marched swiftly with the armies to al-Baṣrah and entered it before Yūsuf arrived there. He filled it with men, and Muʿizz al-Dawlah reinforced him with troops and whatever he needed. He and Ibn Wajīh fought for several days, then Ibn Wajīh was defeated, and al-Muhallabī seized his ships and the weapons and other things he had with him.
