✧ Mention of the death of Manṣūr b. Qarātakīn and Abū al-Muẓaffar b. Muḥtāj In this year, Manṣūr b. Qarātakīn, commander of the Khurasanian armies, died in the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, after his return from Iṣbahān to al-Rayy. The Iraqis mentioned that he drank continuously for several days and nights, and died suddenly. The Khurasanians said: He fell ill and died, and Allah knows best. When he died, the Khurasanian armies returned to Naysābūr, and the bier of Manṣūr was carried and he was buried beside his father in Asbījāb. Among the strange things reported is that when Manṣūr set out from Naysābūr to al-Rayy, he sent a ghulām of his to Asbījāb to reside in the ribāṭ of his father Qarātakīn, where his grave is. When he bade him farewell, he said: It is as if I see myself being carried in a bier to that desert. And it was as he said after a short while: he died, and his bier was carried to that ribāṭ, and he was buried near his father's grave.
