He was given allegiance and remained in the caliphate for a year, four months, and two days. He was deposed and Abū al-Ḥasan b. It was also said: rather, al-Muṭīʿ included him and detained him, and he died [while] aged forty-six years and two months. 2513 - ʿAlī b. Ḥamshādh b. Sakhtawayh b. Abū Bakr b. Isḥāq used to say: I accompanied ʿAlī b. Ḥamshādh in travel and at home, and I do not know that the angels recorded any sin against him. He never abandoned the night prayer. He died suddenly on Friday, the fourteenth of Shawwāl of this year: he entered the bathhouse on Friday and died there without illness. 2514 - ʿAlī b. Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. al-Ḥasan, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Wāʿiẓ: He was born in Muḥarram in the year 251. He was Baghdādī, stayed in Egypt for a long time, so he was called al-Miṣrī, then returned to Baghdad. He had a gathering in which he spoke in the tongue of exhortation. Al-Azharī told me that men and women attended his preaching gathering, and he would place a veil over his face for fear that women would be tempted by the beauty of his face. Al-Azharī said: I was told that Abū Bakr al-Naqqāsh al-Muqriʾ attended his gathering in disguise. When he heard his speech, he stood up, revealed himself, and said to Abū al-Ḥasan: O shaykh, storytelling after you is forbidden. He died in Dhū al-Qaʿdah of this year. 2515 - ʿAlī b. He was a righteous man, one of those who gave legal opinions on lawful and unlawful matters and blood money, trustworthy and truthful. He was accused of Qadarism. I sat with him for a long and broad time, and I never heard anything from him about this. 2518 - Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm b. Aḥmad b. Ṣāliḥ b. Al-Dāraquṭnī narrated from him [and said: he was not strong]. He died on Tuesday, ten days into Jumādā al-Ākhirah of this year.
