✧ Mention of the appointment of Manṣūr b. Qarātakīn over Khurasan When the amīr Nūḥ returned to Bukhārā and set the lands in order—while Abū ʿAlī was in al-Ṣaghāniyān and Abū Aḥmad Muḥammad b. ʿAlī al-Qazwīnī was in Marw—Nūḥ deemed it right to place Manṣūr b. Qarātakīn over the armies of Khurasan. He appointed him to that, and dispatched him to Marw, where Abū Aḥmad was. He had already blocked the watering places between Āmul and Marw and had agreed with Abū ʿAlī; then he abandoned him. Manṣūr marched against him as a light column with two thousand horsemen. Al-Qazwīnī was unaware until Manṣūr encamped at Kushmāhin, five parasangs from Marw. Manṣūr took control of Marw, and Abū Aḥmad al-Qazwīnī came to meet him and honored him, and sent him on to Bukhārā with his wealth and companions. When he arrived there, the amīr Nūḥ honored him and treated him kindly, except that he set someone to watch over him. One day he came upon a note that al-Qazwīnī had written containing what he disapproved of. He summoned him, rebuked him for his sins, then had him put to death.
