Then the year 332 AH began

Translation

✧ The rains were heavy and excessive indeed, so much so that (houses fell into ruin, and many people died beneath the debris, and the value of real estate dropped until) what had been worth a dinar was sold for less than a dirham in actual value, and whatever fell from buildings was not rebuilt. Many bathhouses, mosques, and markets ceased to function because of the scarcity of people, and many brick kilns ceased to operate because of the lack of construction; whoever was compelled to it made do with the ruins. The break-ins by thieves by night and day from the followers of Ibn Ḥamdī increased, and the people kept watch with horns. The affair of Ibn Ḥamdī grew grave and confounded the people. Ibn Shīrazād granted him amnesty and bestowed a robe of honor upon him, and stipulated with him that he should deliver to him every month fifteen thousand dinars from what he and his followers stole, and he used to collect them from Ibn Ḥamdī through the rawzāt, and so his evil became great then. This is something the like of which has not been heard. Then Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Daylamī, the chief of police in Baghdādh, seized Ibn Ḥamdī and killed him in Jumādā al-Ākhirah, and some of what the people were suffering was lightened for them.
