Translation
✧ In it, in Shaʿbān, which falls in Nīsān (April), there appeared in the sky over Baghdad something abundant that veiled the eye of the sun. The people imagined it to be locusts on account of its abundance, and they did not doubt that until part of it fell to the ground, and behold, it was a creature that flies in the gardens, having two upright, ornamented wings. When a person took its wing in his hand, the trace of the colors of the wing remained on his hand, and the wing itself vanished. The boys called it the grinder of dh arīrah (aromatic powder).
