Translation
✧ Mention of the Emirate of Tūzūn We have already mentioned the departure of Sayf al-Dawlah from Baghdādh; when he left it, Tūzūn entered it. His entry into Baghdādh was on the twenty-fifth of Ramaḍān. Al-Muttaqī li-Allāh bestowed upon him a robe of honor and made him Amīr al-Umarāʾ, and Abū Jaʿfar al-Karkhī began to oversee affairs, just as al-Kūfī had overseen them. When Tūzūn departed from Wāsiṭ, al-Barīdī went up to it, and those of Tūzūn's companions who were in it fled to Baghdādh. Tūzūn was not able to hasten to Wāsiṭ until affairs were settled in Baghdādh, so he remained until some of Dhū al-Qaʿdah had passed. Tūzūn had taken captive a young man dear to Sayf al-Dawlah and close to him, called Thimāl. He released him, honored him, and sent him back to him. This pleased the Banū Ḥamdān greatly. Then Tūzūn went down to Wāsiṭ to aim for al-Barīdī. Abū Jaʿfar b. Shīrzād came to him, fleeing from al-Barīdī, and he received him and rejoiced at his coming, and entrusted all his affairs to him.
