Translation

✧ Mention of the march of the ruler of ʿAmmān to al-Baṣrah In this year, in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, Yūsuf b. Wajīh, the ruler of ʿAmmān, marched in many ships, intending al-Baṣrah, and fought al-Barīdī (and he took possession of al-Ubullah), and he became very strong, and he came close to taking al-Baṣrah, so al-Barīdī and his brothers were on the brink of destruction. He had a sailor known as al-Rannādī, who guaranteed to al-Barīdī the defeat of Yūsuf. He promised him great favor, and the sailor took two skiffs and filled them with dry palm leaves, without anyone knowing, and sent them down at night until they approached al-Ubullah. The ships of Ibn Wajīh were tied to one another (at night), becoming like a bridge. When half the night had passed, that sailor set fire to the palm leaves in the two skiffs and sent them with the ebb tide, with the fire burning in them. They came faster than the wind and struck those vessels and ships, and they caught fire, their sails burned, and those in them burned. People plundered from them a great amount of wealth, and Yūsuf b. Wajīh fled in al-Muḥarram of the year 332 AH, (and al-Barīdī treated that sailor well). In this strife, Ibn Shīrzād fled (from al-Barīdī) and went up to Tūzūn.
