Then the year 331 AH began
ذِكْرُ عَوْدِ سَيْفِ الدَّوْلَةِ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ وَهَرَبِهِ عَنْهَا لَمَّا هَرَبَ سَيْفُ الدَّوْلَةِ، عَلَى مَا ذَكَرْنَا، لَحِقَ بِأَخِيهِ، فَبَلَغَهُ خِلَافُ تُوزُونَ وَخَجْخَجَ، فَطَمِعَ فِي بَغْدَاذَ، فَعَادَ وَنَزَلَ بِبَابِ حَرْبٍ، وَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى الْمُتَّقِي لِلَّهِ يَطْلُبُ مِنْهُ مَالًا لِيُقَاتِلَ تُوزُونَ إِنْ قَصَدَ بَغْدَاذَ، فَأَنْفَذَ إِلَيْهِ أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، فَفَرَّقَهَا فِي أَصْحَابِهِ، وَظَهَرَ مَنْ كَانَ مُسْتَخْفِيًا بِبَغْدَاذَ وَخَرَجُوا إِلَيْهِ، وَكَانَ وُصُولُهُ ثَالِثَ عَشَرَ رَمَضَانَ. وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ تُوزُونَ وُصُولُ سَيْفِ الدَّوْلَةِ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ، خَلَّفَ بِوَاسِطَ كَيَغْلَغُ فِي ثَلَاثِمِائَةِ رَجُلٍ وَأَصْعَدَ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ سَيْفُ الدَّوْلَةِ بِإِصْعَادِهِ، رَحَلَ مِنْ بَابِ حَرْبٍ فِيمَنِ انْضَمَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْنَادِ بَغْدَاذَ، وَفِيهِمُ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ هَارُونَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of Sayf al-Dawla's return to Baghdādh and his flight from it When Sayf al-Dawla fled, as we have mentioned, he joined his brother. Then news reached him of the opposition of Tūzūn and Khajkhaj, so he coveted Baghdādh. He returned and encamped at Bāb Ḥarb, and sent to al-Muttaqī lillāh requesting money from him to fight Tūzūn if he headed for Baghdādh. He sent him four hundred thousand dirhams, which he distributed among his followers. Those who had been hiding in Baghdādh appeared and went out to him. His arrival was on the thirteenth of Ramaḍān. When Tūzūn learned of Sayf al-Dawla's arrival in Baghdādh, he left Kayaghlagh in Wāsiṭ with three hundred men and went up to Baghdādh. When Sayf al-Dawla heard of his coming up, he departed from Bāb Ḥarb with those of the troops of Baghdādh who had joined him, among them al-Ḥasan b. Hārūn.
