Tarikh (al-Tabari) 3954

Then the Year 330 AH Began

Translation

✧ Mention of Rukn al-Dawlah's seizure of al-Rayy When Rukn al-Dawlah and his brother ʿImād al-Dawlah, the two sons of Buwayh, heard that Washmakīr had taken possession of al-Rayy, they coveted it, because Washmakīr had become weak and his men and wealth had diminished as a result of that incident with Abū ʿAlī. Rukn al-Dawlah al-Ḥasan b. Buwayh marched to al-Rayy, and he and Washmakīr fought. Washmakīr was defeated, and many of his men sought quarter from Rukn al-Dawlah. Washmakīr went to Ṭabaristān, and al-Ḥasan b. al-Fayrūzān pursued him, and many of his army also sought quarter from him. Washmakīr fled to Khurāsān. Then al-Ḥasan b. al-Fayrūzān corresponded with Rukn al-Dawlah and cultivated close ties with him, and Rukn al-Dawlah married a daughter of al-Ḥasan. She bore him his son Fakhr al-Dawlah ʿAlī. It would have been appropriate for us to mention these events after the death of al-Saʿīd Naṣr b. Aḥmad, but we have mentioned them here so that one may follow another.
