Translation
✧ Then the year 330 AH began. Mention of the vizierate of al-Barīdī In this year Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Barīdī became vizier to al-Muttaqī li-llāh. The reason for that was that Ibn Rāʾiq became distrustful of al-Barīdī, because he delayed the transport of money, and he went down to Wāsiṭ on the tenth of al-Muḥarram. The Banū al-Barīdī fled to al-Baṣrah. Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Kūfī interceded for them until they returned and undertook the tax-farming of the arrears of Wāsiṭ for one hundred and ninety thousand dinars, and they undertook it (every year) for six hundred thousand dinars. Ibn Rāʾiq returned to Baghdād. The troops rioted against him on the second of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, among them Tūzūn and other commanders, and they departed in the last ten days of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir to Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Barīdī in Wāsiṭ. When they reached him, he was strengthened by them. Ibn Rāʾiq was compelled to conciliate him, so he wrote to Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Barīdī appointing him vizier, sent him robes of honor, and appointed Abū (ʿAbd Allāh) b. Shīrzād as his deputy. Then reports reached Baghdād that al-Barīdī intended to go up to Baghdād. Ibn Rāʾiq removed the title of vizier from him and reinstated Abū Isḥāq al-Qarārīṭī, and the Banū al-Barīdī were cursed from the pulpits on both sides of Baghdād.
