Translation

✧ Mention of al-Barīdī’s Return to Wāsiṭ Al-Barīdī was ordering the troops to seek funds from the Caliph, but when the Caliph sent him the aforementioned money, the troops’ greed turned away from the Caliph toward al-Barīdī, and his scheme rebounded upon him, so the troops rioted against him. The Daylamites had put forward over themselves Kūrtakīn al-Daylamī, and the Turks had put forward over themselves Tukaynak al-Turkī, the page of Bujkam. The Daylamites rose against al-Barīdī’s house, burning the house of his brother Abū al-Ḥusayn in which he used to reside, and they deserted al-Barīdī. Tukaynak joined them, and their hands became one, and they agreed to make for al-Barīdī and plunder the wealth he had, so they marched to al-Najmī and the common people went along with them. (Al-Barīdī cut the bridge, and fighting broke out on the water, and the common people) on the western side pounced on al-Barīdī’s followers, so he fled along with his brother, his son Abū al-Qāsim, and his companions, and they went down the water to Wāsiṭ. His house in al-Najmī and the houses of his commanders were plundered. His flight was on the last day of Ramaḍān, and the duration of his stay had been twenty-four days.
