Translation

✧ Mention of Bujkam’s march toward the lands of al-Jabal and his return In this year, Bujkam marched from Baghdādh toward the lands of al-Jabal, then returned from it. The reason for that was that he made peace this year with Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Barīdī and allied with him by marriage, and married his daughter. Al-Barīdī sent to him advising him to march to the lands of al-Jabal to conquer it and take possession of it, and informed him that if he marched to al-Jabal, he would march to al-Ahwāz and deliver it from the hand of Ibn Buwayh. So they agreed upon that. Bujkam sent to him five hundred men from his companions as support for him, and he sent to him his companion Abū Zakariyyāʾ al-Sūsī to urge him to move, and to remain with him until he departed from Wāsiṭ to al-Ahwāz. Bujkam marched to Ḥulwān, and Abū Zakariyyāʾ al-Sūsī began urging Ibn al-Barīdī to march to al-Sūs and al-Ahwāz, while he was stalling for time. He was determined to head for Baghdādh once Bujkam was far from it, in order to seize it, and he was advancing one foot and delaying the other, awaiting misfortunes for him, whether defeat or death. Abū Zakariyyāʾ stayed with him for about a month urging him to march, while he was deceiving him. Abū Zakariyyāʾ came to know his intention, so he wrote to Bujkam, and the news reached him while he was on the march. He rode swift camels and returned to Baghdādh, leaving his army behind him. The news reached al-Barīdī that Bujkam had entered Baghdādh, and he was at a loss. Then reports came to him that Bujkam had marched toward him.
