Translation

✧ Mention of the Vizierate of al-Barīdī for the Caliph In this year, the vizier Abū al-Fatḥ al-Faḍl b. Jaʿfar b. al-Furāt died at al-Ramlah. We have already mentioned the reason for his journey to Syria. His vizierate lasted one year, eight months, and twenty-five days. When he set out for Syria, he appointed as his deputy in the capital ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAlī al-Nuqurī. Bajkam had arrested his vizier ʿAlī b. Khalaf b. Ṭiyāb, so he appointed as vizier Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā b. Shīrazād. Abū Jaʿfar then strove to make peace between Bajkam and al-Barīdī, and that was accomplished. Then al-Barīdī undertook the tax farms of Wāsiṭ for six hundred thousand dinars every year. Then Ibn Shīrazād also began, after the death of the vizier Abū al-Fatḥ at al-Ramlah, to arrange the appointment of Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Barīdī to the vizierate. He sent to al-Rāḍī concerning that, and he consented to it in Rajab. He appointed as his deputy in the capital ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAlī al-Nuqurī also, just as he had deputized for Abū al-Fatḥ.
