✧ Mention of what the Turks did after killing him When the Turks killed Mardāwīj, they fled and split into two parties. One party went to ʿImād al-Dawlah b. Buwayh (with Khajkhaj, whom Tūzūn later surrendered, as we shall mention). The other party, the larger one, went toward the mountain with Bujkum. They collected the land tax of al-Dīnawar and other places, then marched to al-Nahrawān. They wrote to al-Rāḍī requesting permission to go to Baghdādh, and he granted them leave. They entered Baghdādh, but the Ḥajariyyah suspected it was a trick against them and demanded that the Turks be sent back to the mountain region. Ibn Muqlah ordered them to do so and gave them money, but they were not satisfied with it and became angry. Ibn Rāʾiq, who was in Wāsiṭ and also held al-Baṣrah, then wrote to them and summoned them, so they went to him. Bujkum took command over them, and Ibn Rāʾiq ordered him to correspond with the Turks and Daylamites from the followers of Mardāwīj. He wrote to them, and a great number came to him. He treated them well, bestowed robes of honor upon them and especially upon Bujkum, and ordered Bujkum to write to the people as Bujkum al-Rāʾiqī. He stayed with him, and between them occurred what we shall mention.
