فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ أَرْسَلَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَاقُوتٍ حَاجِبُ الْخَلِيفَةِ رَسُولًا إِلَى أَبِي طَاهِرٍ الْقُرْمُطِيِّ يَدْعُوهُ إِلَى طَاعَةِ الْخَلِيفَةِ، لِيُقِرَّهُ عَلَى مَا بِيَدِهِ مِنَ الْبِلَادِ ، وَيُقَلِّدَهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مَا شَاءَ مِنَ الْبُلْدَانِ، وَيُحْسِنَ إِلَيْهِ، وَيَلْتَمِسَ مِنْهُ أَنْ يَكُفَّ عَنِ الْحَاجِّ جَمِيعِهِمْ، وَأَنْ يَرُدَّ الْحَجَرَ الْأَسْوَدَ إِلَى مَوْضِعِهِ بِمَكَّةَ، فَأَجَابَ أَبُو طَاهِرٍ إِلَى أَنَّهُ لَا يَتَعَرَّضُ لِلْحَاجِّ، وَلَا يُصِيبُهُمْ بِمَكْرُوهٍ، وَلَمْ يُجِبْ إِلَى رَدِّ الْحَجَرِ الْأَسْوَدِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ، وَسَأَلَ أَنْ يُطْلِقَ لَهُ الْمِيرَةَ مِنَ الْبَصْرَةِ لِيَخْطُبَ فِي أَعْمَالِ هَجَرَ، فَسَارَ الْحَاجُّ إِلَى مَكَّةَ وَعَادَ وَلَمْ يَتَعَرَّضْ لَهُمُ الْقَرَامِطَةُ. وَفِيهَا فِي ذِي الْقِعْدَةِ عَزَمَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَاقُوتٍ عَلَى الْمَسِيرِ إِلَى الْأَهْوَازِ ; لِمُحَارَبَةِ عَسْكَرِ مَرْدَاوَيْجَ ، فَتَقَدَّمَ إِلَى الْجُنْدِ الْحَجَرِيَّةِ وَالسَّاجِيَّةِ بِالتَّجَهُّزِ لِلْمَسِيرِ مَعَهُ، وَبَذَلَ مَالًا يَتَجَهَّزُونَ بِهِ، فَامْتَنَعُوا وَتَجَمَّعُوا وَقَصَدُوا دَارَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَاقُوتٍ، فَأَغْلَظَ لَهُمْ فِي الْخِطَابِ، فَسَبُّوا، وَرَمَوْا دَارَهُ بِالْحِجَارَةِ، وَلَمَّا كَانَ الْغَدُ قَصَدُوا دَارَهُ أَيْضًا، وَأَغْلَظُوا لَهُ فِي الْخِطَابِ، وَقَاتَلُوا مَنْ بِدَارِهِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَرَمَاهُمْ أَصْحَابُهُ وَغِلْمَانُهُ بِالنُّشَّابِ، فَانْصَرَفُوا وَبَطَلَتِ الْحَرَكَةُ إِلَى الْأَهْوَازِ.
Translation
✧ In this year, Muḥammad b. Yāqūt, the chamberlain of the caliph, sent a messenger to Abū Ṭāhir al-Qurmuṭī, inviting him to obedience to the caliph, so that he might confirm him in the lands he held, and after that assign him whatever regions he wished, and treat him kindly, and request of him that he refrain from all the pilgrims, and that he return the Black Stone to its place in Makkah. Abū Ṭāhir agreed that he would not interfere with the pilgrims and would not harm them, but he did not agree to return the Black Stone to Makkah. He asked that supplies be released to him from Al-Baṣrah so that he might deliver the khuṭbah in the districts of Hajar. The pilgrims traveled to Makkah and returned, and the Qarāmiṭah did not interfere with them. In Dhū al-Qiʿdah of this year, Muḥammad b. Yāqūt resolved to march to Al-Ahwāz to fight the army of Mardāwīj. He ordered the Ḥajariyyah and Sājiyyah troops to prepare to march with him, and he offered them money to equip themselves, but they refused, gathered together, and headed for the house of Muḥammad b. Yāqūt. He spoke harshly to them, so they insulted him and pelted his house with stones. The next day, they again headed for his house, spoke harshly to him, and fought those of his companions who were in his house. His companions and servants shot arrows at them, so they departed, and the movement toward Al-Ahwāz was canceled.
