ذِكْرُ ظُهُورِ إِنْسَانٍ ادَّعَى النُّبُوَّةَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ظَهَرَ بِبَاسِنْدَ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ الصَّغَانِيَانِ رَجُلٌ ادَّعَى النُّبُوَّةَ، فَقَصَدَهُ فَوْجٌ بَعْدَ فَوْجٍ، وَاتَّبَعَهُ خَلْقٌ كَثِيرٌ، وَحَارَبَ مَنْ خَالَفَهُ، فَقَتَلَ خَلْقًا كَثِيرًا مِمَّنْ كَذَّبَهُ، فَكَثُرَ أَتْبَاعُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّاشِ خُصُوصًا. وَكَانَ صَاحِبُ حِيَلٍ وَمَخَارِيقَ، وَكَانَ يُدْخِلُ يَدَهُ فِي حَوْضٍ مَلْآنَ مَاءً، فَيُخْرِجُهَا مَمْلُوءَةً دَنَانِيرَ، إِلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْمَخَارِيقِ، فَكَثُرَ جَمْعُهُ، فَأَنْفَذَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُو عَلِيِّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُظَفَّرِ جَيْشًا، فَحَارَبُوهُ وَضَيَّقُوا عَلَيْهِ، وَهُوَ فَوْقَ جَبَلٍ عَالٍ، حَتَّى قَبَضُوا عَلَيْهِ وَقَتَلُوهُ، وَحَمَلُوا رَأْسَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَلِيٍّ، وَقَتَلُوا خَلْقًا كَثِيرًا مِمَّنِ اتَّبَعَهُ وَآمَنَ بِهِ، وَكَانَ يَدَّعِي أَنَّهُ مَتَى مَاتَ، عَادَ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا، فَبَقِيَ بِتِلْكَ النَّاحِيَةِ جَمَاعَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ عَلَى مَا دَعَاهُمْ إِلَيْهِ مُدَّةً طَوِيلَةً، ثُمَّ اضْمَحَلُّوا وَفَنَوْا.
Translation
✧ Mention of the appearance of a man who claimed prophethood In this year, there appeared in Bāsind, in the districts of al-Ṣaghāniyān, a man who claimed prophethood. Group after group turned to him, and a great many people followed him. He fought those who opposed him and killed many of those who called him a liar. His followers from the people of al-Shāsh in particular became numerous. He was a master of tricks and illusions. He would plunge his hand into a basin full of water and bring it out full of dinars, along with other such illusions. His following grew large, so Abū ʿAlī b. Muḥammad b. al-Muẓaffar sent an army against him. They fought him and pressed him hard while he was on a high mountain, until they seized him and killed him. They carried his head to Abū ʿAlī and killed many of those who followed him and believed in him. He used to claim that whenever he died, he would return to this world. A large group remained in that region upon what he had called them to for a long time, then they dwindled and perished.
