مُلْكِ مَرْدَاوِيجَ وَلَمَّا انْهَزَمَ أَسْفَارٌ مِنْ مَرْدَاوِيجَ ابْتَدَأَ فِي مِلْكِ الْبِلَادِ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ ظَفِرَ بِأَسْفَارٍ فَقَتَلَهُ فَتَمَكَّنَ مُلْكُهُ وَثَبَتَ، وَتَنَقَّلَ فِي الْبِلَادِ يَمْلِكُهَا مَدِينَةً مَدِينَةً، وَوِلَايَةً وِلَايَةً، فَمَلَكَ قَزْوِينَ، وَوَعَدَهُمُ الْجَمِيلَ فَأَحَبُّوهُ، ثُمَّ سَارَ إِلَى الرَّيِّ فَمَلَكَهَا، وَمَلَكَ هَمَذَانَ، وَكَنْكُورَ، وَالدِّينَوَرَ، وَبُرُوجَرْدَ، وَقُمَّ، وَقَاشَانَ، وَأَصْبَهَانَ، وَجَرْبَاذَقَانَ وَغَيْرَهَا. ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ أَسَاءَ السِّيرَةَ فِي أَهْلِ أَصْبَهَانَ خَاصَّةً، وَأَخَذَ الْأَمْوَالَ، وَهَتَكَ الْمَحَارِمَ، وَطَغَى، وَعَمِلَ لَهُ سَرِيرًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ يَجْلِسُ عَلَيْهِ، وَسَرِيرًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ يَجْلِسُ عَلَيْهِ أَكَابِرُ قُوَّادِهِ، وَإِذَا جَلَسَ عَلَى السَّرِيرِ يَقِفُ عَسْكَرُهُ صُفُوفًا بِالْبُعْدِ مِنْهُ، وَلَا يُخَاطِبُهُ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا الْحُجَّابَ الَّذِينَ رَتَّبَهُمْ لِذَلِكَ، وَخَافَهُ النَّاسُ خَوْفًا شَدِيدًا.
Translation
✧ The kingship of Mardāwīj When Mardāwīj put Asfār to flight, he began to take possession of the lands. Then he seized Asfār and killed him, so his rule was established and firm. He moved through the lands, taking them city by city and province by province. He took Qazwīn and promised its people good, so they loved him. Then he marched to al-Rayy and took it, and he took Hamadhān, Kankūr, al-Dīnawar, Burūjird, Qumm, Qāshān, Iṣbahān, Jarbādhqān, and others. Then he behaved badly toward the people of Iṣbahān in particular: he seized wealth, violated sanctities, and tyrannized. He had a throne of gold made for himself to sit upon, and a throne of silver on which the chief of his commanders sat. When he sat on the throne, his army stood in rows at a distance from him, and no one addressed him except the chamberlains whom he had appointed for that purpose. The people feared him with intense fear.
