Translation
✧ The Samanid takeover of al-Rayy When al-Muqtadir summoned Yūsuf b. Abī al-Sāj to Wāsiṭ, he wrote to al-Saʿīd Naṣr b. Aḥmad al-Sāmānī granting him the governorship of al-Rayy, and ordered him to make for it and take it from Fātik, the ghulām of Yūsuf. So Naṣr b. Aḥmad marched to it at the beginning of the year 314 AH. He reached Jabal Qārin, but Abū Naṣr al-Ṭabarī prevented him from crossing, so he encamped there. He corresponded with him and offered him thirty thousand dinars until he enabled him to cross. He then marched until he drew near al-Rayy, and Fātik left it. Naṣr b. Aḥmad took possession of it in Jumādā al-Ākhirah, and stayed there for two months. He appointed Sīmjūr al-Dawātī over it and departed from it. Then he appointed Muḥammad b. ʿAlī Ṣuʿlūk over it. Naṣr went to Bukhārā, and Ṣuʿlūk entered al-Rayy and remained there until the beginning of Shaʿbān in the year 316 AH, when he fell ill. He wrote to al-Ḥasan al-Dāʿī and Mākān b. Kālī to come to him so that he might hand over al-Rayy to them. They came to him, and he handed over al-Rayy to them and departed from it. When he reached al-Dāmaghān, he died.
