✧ The ministry of Abu al-Qasim al-Khaqani When the situation of Ibn al-Furat changed, 'Abd Allah b. Muhammad b. 'Ubayd Allah b. Yahya b. Khaqan, Abu al-Qasim b. Abi 'Ali al-Khaqani, sought the ministry. He wrote in his own hand that he would guarantee the confiscation of two million dinars from Ibn al-Furat and his associates. Mu'nis the eunuch, Harun b. Gharib al-Khal, and Nasr the chamberlain interceded for him. His father, Abu 'Ali al-Khaqani, was gravely ill and had become enfeebled by old age, unaware of anything concerning his son's affairs. Abu al-Qasim assumed the ministry on the ninth of Rabi' al-Awwal. Al-Muqtadir disliked him. When Ibn al-Furat, who was imprisoned, heard of his appointment, he said, "It is the caliph who has been afflicted, not I," meaning that the vizier was incompetent and did not understand the affairs of the ministry. When al-Khaqani became vizier, Mu'nis the eunuch interceded with him to restore 'Ali b. 'Isa from San'a' to Makkah. He wrote to Ja'far, the governor of Yemen, granting permission for 'Ali b. 'Isa to return to Makkah, and he authorized 'Ali to inspect the finances of Egypt and Syria. Abu 'Ali al-Khaqani died during his son's ministry.
