Translation

✧ The Arrest of the Vizier Ibn al-Furāt and His Son al-Muḥassin Then the clamor against Ibn al-Furāt increased, so he wrote to al-Muqtadir informing him of that, and that the people only opposed him because of his sincere counsel and compassion, and his taking his rights from them. So al-Muqtadir sent to him to reassure him and soothe his heart. Then he and his son rode to al-Muqtadir, and he admitted them to him and soothed their hearts, and they departed from his presence. Then Naṣr al-Ḥājib prevented them from leaving and set guards over them. He entered upon al-Muqtadir and advised him to delay his dismissal, so he ordered their release. So he and his son al-Muḥassin departed. As for al-Muḥassin, he went into hiding, and as for the vizier, he sat through the whole of his day carrying out affairs until nightfall. Then he spent the night pondering, and when morning came, one of his servants heard him reciting: And he arose, not knowing, though he was resolute, whether what lay before him was better for him, or what lay behind. When the next day dawned, which was the eighth of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, and the day had advanced, Nāzūk and Bulayq came to him with a number of soldiers. They entered upon the vizier while he was with the women, and brought him out barefoot with his head uncovered. He was taken to the Tigris, and Bulayq threw a ṭaylasān over him with which he covered his head. He was carried to a boat in which was Muʾnis al-Muẓaffar, and with him Hilāl b. Badr. Ibn al-Furāt apologized to him and softened his speech, but he said to him: "I am now the master, though yesterday I was the traitor striving for the ruin of the state. You brought me out while rain fell upon my head and the heads of my companions, and you gave me no respite." Then he was handed over to Shafīʿ al-Luʾluʾī and imprisoned with him. The duration of this vizierate of his was ten months and eighteen days. His companions and sons were seized, and none of them escaped except al-Muḥassin, for he went into hiding. Ibn al-Furāt was fined a sum of money amounting to one million dinars.
