The Year 309 AH
وفِي سَنَةُ تِسْعٍ وَثَلَاثِمِائَةٍ وَقَعَ حَرِيقٌ كَثِيرٌ فِي نُوَاحِي بَغْدَادَ بِسَبَبِ زِنْدِيقٍ قُتِلَ فَأَلْقَى مَنْ كَانَ مِنْ جِهَتِهِ الْحَرِيقَ فِي أَمَاكِنَ كَثِيرَةٍ فَهَلَكَ بِسَبَبِ ذَلِكَ خَلْقٌ كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ. وَفِي جُمَادَى الْأُولَى مِنْهَا قَلَّدَ الْمُقْتَدِرُ مُؤْنِسًا الْخَادِمَ بِلَادَ مِصْرَ وَالشَّامِ وَلَقَبَّهُ الْمُظَفَّرَ وَكَتَبَ بِذَلِكَ فِي الْمُرَاسَلَاتِ إِلَى الْآفَاقِ. وَفِي ذِي الْقَعْدَةِ مِنْهَا أُحْضِرَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ الطَّبَرِيُّ - رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ - إِلَى دَارِ الْوَزِيرِ عِيسَى بْنِ عَلِيٍّ لِمُنَاظَرَةِ الْحَنَابِلَةِ فِي أَشْيَاءَ نَقَمُوهَا عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَحْضُرُوا وَلَا وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمْ. وَقَدَّمَ الْوَزِيرُ حَامِدُ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ لِلْخَلِيفَةِ بُسْتَانًا بَنَاهُ وَسَمَّاهُ النَّاعُورَةَ قِيمَتُهُ مِائَةُ أَلْفِ دِينَارٍ وَفَرَشَ مَسَاكِنَهُ بِأَنْوَاعِ الْمَفَارِشِ الْمُفْتَخِرَةِ. وَفِيهَا اسْتَعْمَلَ الْمُقْتَدِرُ عَلَى حَرْبِ الْمَوْصِلِ وَمَعُونَتِهَا مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ نَصْرٍ الْحَاجِبَ فِي جُمَادَى الْأُولَى، وَسَارَ إِلَيْهَا فِيهِ، فَلَمَّا وَصَلَ إِلَيْهَا أَوْقَعَ بِمَنْ خَالَفَهُ مِنَ الْأَكْرَادِ الْمَارَانِيَّةِ، فَقَتَلَ، وَأَسَرَ، وَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى بَغْدَاذَ نَيِّفًا وَثَمَانِينَ أَسِيرًا، فَشُهِرُوا. وَفِيهَا قُلِّدَ دَاوُدُ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ دِيَارَ رَبِيعَةَ.
Translation
✧ In the year 309 AH, a great fire occurred in the districts of Baghdad because of a zindīq who was killed, and those on his side cast fire in many places, and because of that a great many people perished. In Jumādā al-Ūlā of that year, al-Muqtadir appointed Muʾnis the servant over the lands of Egypt and Syria and titled him al-Muẓaffar, and wrote of that in the correspondences to the horizons. In Dhū al-Qaʿdah of that year, Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad b. Jarīr al-Ṭabarī—may God have mercy on him—was brought to the residence of the vizier ʿĪsā b. ʿAlī for a debate with the Ḥanbalīs concerning things they had censured against him, but not one of them attended. The vizier Ḥāmid b. al-ʿAbbās presented to the caliph a garden he had built and named al-Nāʿūrah, its value being one hundred thousand dinars, and he furnished its dwellings with various kinds of splendid furnishings. In that year, al-Muqtadir appointed Muḥammad b. Naṣr the chamberlain over the war of Mosul and its assistance in Jumādā al-Ūlā, and he set out to it in that month. When he reached it, he fell upon those of the Mārānī Kurds who opposed him, and he killed and took captives, and he sent to Baghdad more than eighty captives, and they were paraded. In that year, Dāwūd b. Ḥamdān was appointed over Diyār Rabīʿah.
