Translation
✧ Mention of several events In the year seven and three hundred [AH 307], a fire broke out in al-Karkh in Baghdād, in which many houses and people were burned. In it, Ibrāhīm b. Ḥamdān was appointed over Diyār Rabīʿah, and Bunnayy b. Nafīs was appointed over Shahrazūr, but it withheld itself from him. He sought reinforcement from al-Muqtadir, who sent an army to him. He besieged it but did not conquer it. He was also appointed to fight in al-Mawṣil and its districts. In it, Thamil, the official in charge of raiding by sea, fell upon ships belonging to al-Mahdī al-ʿAlawī, the ruler of Ifrīqiyyah, and killed a group of those on board and captured a servant of his. In it, a great star fell, its light intensifying and growing great. It split into three parts, and at its falling a sound like violent thunder was heard, though there was no cloud in the sky. In it, there was civil strife in al-Mawṣil between the food merchants and the cobblers. The market of the cobblers and what was in it burned. The governor of al-Mawṣil and its districts was al-ʿAbbās b. Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Kundāj. He was outside the city when he heard of the strife, so he returned to attack the people of al-Mawṣil. They resolved to fight him, fortified the city, and blocked the roads. When he learned of that, he abandoned fighting them and commanded the Bedouin to ruin the districts. They began to waylay travelers at the bridge and in the square, and he shared in their spoils. Thus he ruined the city. News reached the caliph, who dismissed him in the year eight and three hundred [AH 308] and appointed after him ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad al-Fattān. He was chaste and stern, and he restrained the Bedouin from the city. In it: the house of Muḥammad b. Isḥāq b. Kundāj was purchased for Ibrāhīm b. al-Muqtadir for thirty thousand dinars, and houses were made for the princes among the caliph's sons. In Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of that year, about one hundred and fifty captives from al-Karkh were brought in, whom the amir Badr al-Ḥammāmī had rescued. In it, the Qarāmiṭah entered al-Baṣrah and wrought much corruption there. In it, Ḥāmid b. al-ʿAbbās was dismissed from the vizierate and Abū al-Ḥasan b. al-Furāt was restored to it for the third time. In it, the common people broke down the doors of the prisons and brought out those who were inside. The police caught up with those who had been taken out of prison, and none of them escaped; rather, they were returned to the prisons. In this year the people were led on the pilgrimage by Aḥmad b. al-ʿAbbās, the brother of Umm Mūsā al-Qahramānah.
