Translation
✧ The conquest of Sijistān by Kathīr b. Aḥmad and his fighting Kathīr b. Aḥmad (b. Shahfūr) had taken control of the districts of Sijistān. The caliph wrote to Badr b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥammāmī, who was in charge of the districts of Fārs, commanding him to send an army to fight Kathīr, to appoint Darak as commander over them, and to appoint Zayd b. Ibrāhīm over the land tax there. Badr equipped a numerous army and dispatched them. When they arrived, Kathīr fought them, but he had no strength against them. His situation weakened, and they almost took possession of the town. Then the people of the town learned that Zayd had with him shackles and fetters for their notables, so they gathered with Kathīr, strengthened him, and fought alongside him. They routed the caliph's army and captured Zayd. They found with him the shackles and fetters, and they placed them on his legs and neck. Kathīr wrote to the caliph disavowing that, placing the blame for it on the people of the town. The caliph sent to Badr al-Ḥammāmī, commanding him to go in person to fight Kathīr. Badr prepared himself. When Kathīr heard of that, he became afraid and sent seeking a settlement for a sum of money he would deliver every year. That was granted to him, and he was settled for five hundred thousand dirhams, and the regions were confirmed to him.
