the accounts of past peoples from the Israelites and others
Translation
✧ This story shows that no one should incline toward the life of this world, be deceived by it, or trust in it. Rather, one should keep obedience to Allah and reliance upon Him in every situation as the focus of one's attention, and one should have more confidence in what is with Allah than in what is in one's own hand. It also teaches that whoever gives precedence to anything over obedience to Allah and spending in His cause will be punished because of it, and perhaps will be deprived of it, as a recompense contrary to his intention. It also shows the obligation of accepting the sincere advice of a compassionate brother, and that opposing it brings woe and destruction upon the one who rejects sound counsel. It further shows that regret is of no avail when the decree arrives and the inevitable matter is carried out. Allah is the One whose help is sought, and upon Him is the reliance.
