مَنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِي سنة أربع وثمانين ومائتين مِنَ الْأَكَابِرِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْمُسْتَمْلِي، الزَّاهِدُ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْمُسْتَمْلِي، الزَّاهِدُ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، وَيُلَقَّبُ، بِحَكْمَوَيْهِ الْعَابِدِ . سَمِعَ قُتَيْبَةَ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ، وَإِسْحَاقَ بْنَ رَاهُوَيْهِ، وَأَحْمَدَ بْنَ حَنْبَلٍ، وَسُرَيْجَ بْنَ يُونُسَ فِي خَلْقٍ كَثِيرٍ، وَكَانَ رَاهِبَ أَهْلِ عَصْرِهِ، يَصُومُ النَّهَارَ، وَيَحْيَى اللَّيْلَ ، وَاسْتَمْلَى عَلَى الْمَشَايِخِ سِتًّا وَخَمْسِينَ سَنَةً وَحَدَّثَ. وعن أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَاكِمُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقَاضِي يَقُولُ: حَضَرْتُ مَجْلِسَ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَدَخَلَ أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْمُسْتَمْلِي وَعَلَيْهِ أَثْوَابٌ رَثَّةٌ، فَبَكَى أَبُو عُثْمَانَ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمَ مَجْلِسِ الذِّكْرِ بَكَى أَبُو عُثْمَانَ فِي آخِرِ مَجْلِسِهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ شَيْخٌ مِنْ مَشَايِخِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، فَاشْتَغَلَ قَلْبِي بِرَثَاثَةِ حَالِهِ، وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي أُجِلُّهُ عَنْ تَسْمِيَتِهِ فِي هَذَا الْمَوْضِعِ لَسَمَّيْتُهُ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَرْمُونَ بِالْخَوَاتِيمِ وَالدَّرَاهِمِ وَالْكُسْوَةِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَجَمَّعَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، فَقَامَ أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْمُسْتَمْلِي عَلَى رُءُوسِ النَّاسِ، وَقَالَ: أَنَا الَّذِي ذَكَرَنِي أَبُو عُثْمَانَ بِرَثَاثَةِ الْحَالِ، وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ يُتَّهَمَ فِي غَيْرِي فَيَأْثَمُ فِيهِ لَسَتَرْتُ مَا سَتَرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيَّ، فَتَعَجَّبَ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ مِنْ إِخْلَاصِهِ، وَأَخَذَ جَمِيعَ مَا جُمِعَ لَهُ، وَحَمَلَهُ مَعَهُ [ وَخَرَجَ نَحْوُ الْجَامِعِ ] فَبَلَغَ بَابَ الْجَامِعِ، وَقَدْ وَهَبَ الْفُقَرَاءَ [ كُلَّ ] مَا جُمِعَ لَهُ. وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي جُمَادَى الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مِسْعَرٍ، أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْكِرْمَانِيُّ [إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مِسْعَرٍ، أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْكِرْمَانِيُّ. قَدِمَ مِصْرَ وَحَدَّثَ بِهَا وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ]. إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الصَّالِحِيُّ [إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الصَّالِحِيُّ. حَدَّثَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجِّ وَغَيْرِهِ وَرَوَى عَنْهُ الْبَاغَنْدِيُّ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ. وعن مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ: الصَّالِحِيُّ مِنْ وَلَدِ صَالِحٍ صَاحِبِ الْمُصَلَّى، كَانَ يُعْرَفُ بِالطَّلَبِ وَالصَّلَاحِ، كَتَبَ النَّاسُ عَنْهُ، وَوَثَّقُوهُ، وَكَانَ يَنْزِلُ دَرْبَ سُلَيْمَانَ بِالرَّصَافَةِ، مَاتَ فِي جُمَادَى الْأُولَى سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَثَمَانِينَ ]. إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَيْمُونَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ الْحَرْبِيُّ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَيْمُونَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ الْحَرْبِيُّ. سَمِعَ عَفَّانَ، وَهَوْذَةَ بْنَ خَلِيفَةَ، وَالْقَعْنَبِيَّ، وَأَبَا نُعَيْمٍ فِي آخَرِينَ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ، وَالنَّجَّادُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ، وَابْنُ الصَّوَّافِ، وَكَانَ أَكْبَرَ مِنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَرْبِيِّ بِثَلَاثِ سِنِينَ، وَوَثَّقَهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ، وَالدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ ، وَتُوُفِّيَ لِأَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً بَقِيَتْ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ، وَنُودِيَ عَلَيْهِ فِي أَكْنَافِ مَدِينَةِ السَّلَامِ، وَاجْتَمَعَ خَلْقٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ لِحُضُورِ جِنَازَتِهِ، وَغَلَطَ قَوْمٌ فَقَصَدُوا مَنْزِلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَرْبِيَّ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمُ: لَيْسَ إِلَى هَذَا الْمَوْضِعِ قَصَدْتُمْ، وَغَدًا تَأْتُونَهُ أَيْضًا ! وَعَاشَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْحَرْبِيُّ بَعْدَهُ سَنَةً دُونَ شَهْرَيْنِ. إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ مَوْلَى بَنِي سُدُوسٍ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ مَوْلَى بَنِي سُدُوسٍ. وُلِدَ بِالْبَصْرَةِ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَتِسْعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ، وَكَانَ صَالِحًا يَتَّجِرُ فِي الْجَوْهَرِ. وَتُوُفِّيَ بِمِصْرَ فِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ الْعَدَوِيُّ [عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ الْعَدَوِيُّ، الْمَعْرُوفُ بِابْنِ الْيَزِيدِيِّ. سَمِعَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ مَنْصُورٍ، وَعَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ يَحْيَى، وَالْأَصْمَعِيَّ، وَكَانَ ثِقَةً . وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي مُحَرَّمِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ]. عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ. كَانَ الْإِمَامُ فِي جَامِعِ الرَّصَافَةِ، وَإِلَيْهِ الْحِسْبَةُ بِبَغْدَادَ، وَحَدَّثَ عَنْ نَصْرٍ الْجَهْضَمِيِّ، رَوَى عَنْهُ: أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ الْمُنَادِي، وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي صَفَرِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ أُسَيْدٍ، أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ الْأُمَوِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ. قَدِمَ بَغْدَادَ، وَحَدَّثَ بِهَا عَنْ أَزْهَرَ السِّمَانِ، وَأَبِي عَاصِمٍ النَّبِيلِ. رَوَى عَنْهُ: أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ السَّمَّاكِ. تُوُفِّيَ فِي رَبِيعٍ الْآخَرِ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ طَهْمَانَ، أَبُو خَالِدٍ الدَّقَّاقُ يَزِيدُ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ طَهْمَانَ، أَبُو خَالِدٍ الدَّقَّاقُ، يَعْرَفُ بِالْبَادِّ. كَذَا يَقُولُ الْمُحَدِّثُونَ وَصَوَابُهُ: الْبَادِي بِكَسْرِ الدَّالِ لِأَنَّهُ وُلِدَ هُوَ وَأَخٌ لَهُ تَوْأَمَانِ فَكَانَ هُوَ الْبَادِي فِي الْوِلَادَةِ. سَمِعَ عَاصِمَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ، وَيَحْيَى بْنَ مَعِينٍ رَوَى عَنْهُ: ابْنُ صَاعِدٍ، وَغَيْرُهُ. وَكَانَ ثِقَةً . وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي شَوَّالِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ. وَمِمَّنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِيهَا مِنَ الْأَعْيَانِ : ابْنِ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ الْحَرْبِيُّ ابْنِ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ الْحَرْبِيُّ سَمِعَ عَفَّانَ وَأَبَا نُعَيْمٍ وَغَيْرَهُمَا وَكَانَ أَسَنَّ مِنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَرْبِيِّ بِثَلَاثِ سِنِينَ وَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ إِسْحَاقُ نُودِيَ لَهُ بِالْبَلَدِ فَقَصَدَ النَّاسُ دَارَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ عَلَيْهِ وَاعْتَقَدَ بَعْضُ الْعَامَّةِ أَنَّهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْحَرْبِيُّ فَجَعَلُوا يَقْصِدُونَ دَارَهُ، فَيَقُولُ لَهُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمُ: لَيْسَ إِلَى هَذَا الْمَوْضِعِ قَصَدْتُمْ وَغْدًا تَأْتُونَهُ أَيْضًا. فَمَا عُمِّرَ بَعْدَهُ إِلَّا دُونَ السَّنَةِ، رَحِمَهُمَا اللَّهُ. إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ الْفَقِيهُ أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ الْإِسْفِرَايِينِيُّ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ الْفَقِيهُ أَبُو يَعْقُوبَ الْإِسْفِرَايِينِيُّ الشَّافِعِيُّ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ كَانَتْ إِلَيْهِ الْحِسْبَةُ بِبَغْدَادَ وَإِمَامَةُ جَامِعِ الرُّصَافَةِ. وَفِيهَا أَيْضًا تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْوَضَّاحِ بْنِ رَبِيعٍ الْأَنْدَلُسِيُّ، وَكَانَ مِنَ الْعُلَمَاءِ الْمَشْهُورِينَ.
Translation
✧ Those of the notables who died in the year 284 AH Aḥmad b. al-Mubārak, Abū ʿAmr al-Mustamlī, the ascetic Aḥmad b. al-Mubārak, Abū ʿAmr al-Mustamlī, the ascetic of Naysābūr, and he was nicknamed Ḥakmawayh the devout. He heard Qutaybah b. Saʿīd, Isḥāq b. Rāhawayh, Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, and Surayj b. Yūnus, among many others. He was the monk of the people of his age: he fasted by day and kept vigil by night. He acted as mustamlī (repeater) for the shaykhs for fifty-six years and transmitted ḥadīth. On the authority of Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥākim, who said: I heard al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Muḥammad al-Qāḍī say: I attended the gathering of Abū ʿUthmān Saʿīd b. Ismāʿīl, and Abū ʿAmr al-Mustamlī entered wearing worn-out clothes. Abū ʿUthmān wept. Then, on the day of the dhikr gathering, Abū ʿUthmān wept at the end of his gathering and said: A shaykh from among the shaykhs of the people of knowledge entered upon me, and my heart became preoccupied with the shabbiness of his condition. Were it not that I hold him in too much esteem to name him in this place, I would have named him. So the people began throwing rings, dirhams, and clothing before him, and they gathered before him. Then Abū ʿAmr al-Mustamlī stood up before the people and said: I am the one whom Abū ʿUthmān mentioned as being of shabby condition. Were it not that I disliked that another be suspected and thereby incur sin, I would have concealed what God has concealed for me. Abū ʿUthmān marveled at his sincerity. He took all that was collected for him and carried it with him [and went out toward the mosque]. He reached the gate of the mosque and had already given away to the poor [all] that was collected for him. He died in Jumādā al-Ākhirah of this year. Ibrāhīm b. Jaʿfar b. Misʿar, Abū Isḥāq al-Kirmānī [Ibrāhīm b. Jaʿfar b. Misʿar, Abū Isḥāq al-Kirmānī. He came to Egypt and transmitted ḥadīth there and died in this year]. Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ṣāliḥ, Abū Isḥāq al-Ṣāliḥī [Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ṣāliḥ, Abū Isḥāq al-Ṣāliḥī. He transmitted from Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj and others, and al-Bāghandī transmitted from him among a group. On the authority of Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, who said: Al-Ṣāliḥī was from the descendants of Ṣāliḥ, the companion of the prayer place. He was known for seeking knowledge and righteousness. The people wrote from him and deemed him trustworthy. He used to dwell in Darb Sulaymān in al-Ruṣāfah. He died in Jumādā al-Ūlā of the year 284]. Isḥāq b. al-Ḥasan b. Maymūn b. Saʿd, Abū Yaʿqūb al-Ḥarbī Isḥāq b. al-Ḥasan b. Maymūn b. Saʿd, Abū Yaʿqūb al-Ḥarbī. He heard ʿAffān, Hawdhah b. Khalīfah, al-Qaʿnabī, and Abū Nuʿaym, among others. Transmitted from him: Ibn Ṣāʿid, al-Najjād, Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī, and Ibn al-Ṣawwāf. He was older than Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī by three years. Ibrāhīm and al-Dāraquṭnī deemed him trustworthy. He died when fourteen nights remained of Shawwāl, and a public announcement was made for him in the environs of Madīnat al-Salām. A great crowd of people gathered to attend his funeral. Some people erred and headed to the house of Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī, and Ibrāhīm said to them: It is not to this place that you intended, and tomorrow you will come to it as well! Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī lived after him one year less two months. Isḥāq b. Muḥammad, Abū Yaʿqūb, client of Banū Sudūs Isḥāq b. Muḥammad, Abū Yaʿqūb, client of Banū Sudūs. He was born in al-Baṣrah in the year 194 AH, and he was a righteous man who traded in jewels. He died in Egypt in Dhū al-Ḥijjah of this year. ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā b. al-Mubārak, Abū al-Qāsim al-ʿAdawī [ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā b. al-Mubārak, Abū al-Qāsim al-ʿAdawī, known as Ibn al-Yazīdī. He heard Muḥammad b. Manṣūr, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Yaḥyā, and al-Aṣmaʿī, and he was trustworthy. He died in Muḥarram of this year]. ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥasan b. Ismāʿīl, Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Hāshimī ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥasan b. Ismāʿīl, Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Hāshimī. He was the imam in the Jāmiʿ of al-Ruṣāfah, and the ḥisbah (market inspection) in Baghdad was entrusted to him. He transmitted from Naṣr al-Jahḍamī. Transmitted from him: Abū al-Ḥasan b. al-Munādī. He died in Ṣafar of this year. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muʿāwiyah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Umayyah ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muʿāwiyah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Umayyah b. Khālid b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Saʿīd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAbbād b. Usayd, Abū Khālid al-Qurashī al-Umawī al-Baṣrī. He came to Baghdad and transmitted ḥadīth there from Azhar al-Sammān and Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl. Transmitted from him: Abū ʿAmr b. al-Sammāk. He died in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of this year. Yazīd b. al-Haytham b. Ṭahmān, Abū Khālid al-Daqqāq Yazīd b. al-Haytham b. Ṭahmān, Abū Khālid al-Daqqāq, known as al-Bādd. Thus say the muḥaddithūn, but the correct form is al-Bādī, with kasrah on the dāl, because he and a brother of his were born twins, and he was the first (al-bādī) in birth. He heard ʿĀṣim b. ʿAlī and Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn. Transmitted from him: Ibn Ṣāʿid and others. He was trustworthy. He died in Shawwāl of this year. Among the prominent figures who died in this year: Ibn Maymūn b. Saʿd Abū Yaʿqūb al-Ḥarbī Ibn Maymūn b. Saʿd Abū Yaʿqūb al-Ḥarbī heard ʿAffān and Abū Nuʿaym and others besides them. He was older than Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī by three years. When Isḥāq died, an announcement was made for him in the city, and the people headed to his house to pray over him. Some of the common people believed that he was Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī, so they began heading to his house. Ibrāhīm said to them: It is not to this place that you intended, and tomorrow you will come to it as well. He lived after him less than a year, may God have mercy on them both. Isḥāq b. Mūsā b. ʿImrān al-Faqīh Abū Yaʿqūb al-Isfarāyīnī Isḥāq b. Mūsā b. ʿImrān al-Faqīh Abū Yaʿqūb al-Isfarāyīnī al-Shāfiʿī ʿUbayd Allāh b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥasan b. Ismāʿīl Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Hāshimī; the ḥisbah in Baghdad was entrusted to him, as was the imamate of the Jāmiʿ of al-Ruṣāfah. In this year also died Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad b. al-Waḍḍāḥ b. Rabīʿ al-Andalusī, and he was among the well-known scholars.
