حَصْرِ الصَّقَالِبَةِ الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّةَ وَفِي سنة ثلاث وثمانين ومائتين سَارَتِ الصَّقَالِبَةُ إِلَى الرُّومِ، فَحَصَرُوا الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّةَ، وَقَتَلُوا مِنْ أَهْلِهَا خَلْقًا كَثِيرًا، وَخَرَّبُوا الْبِلَادَ، فَلَمَّا لَمْ يَجِدْ مَلِكُ الرُّومِ مِنْهُمْ خَلَاصًا جَمَعَ مَنْ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ أُسَارَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَأَعْطَاهُمُ السِّلَاحَ، وَسَأَلَهُمْ مَعُونَتَهُ عَلَى الصَّقَالِبَةِ، فَفَعَلُوا، وَكَشَفُوا الصَّقَالِبَةَ، وَأَزَاحُوهُمْ عَنِ الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّةِ، وَلَمَّا رَأَى مَلِكُ الرُّومِ ذَلِكَ خَافَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، فَرَدَّهُمْ، وَأَخَذَ السِّلَاحَ مِنْهُمْ وَفَرَّقَهُمْ فِي الْبِلَادِ حَذَرًا مِنْ جِنَايَتِهِمْ عَلَيْهِ.
Translation
✧ The Slavs' siege of Constantinople In the year two hundred eighty-three, the Slavs marched against the Byzantines and besieged Constantinople. They killed a great many of its inhabitants and laid waste the lands. When the Byzantine king found no deliverance from them, he gathered the Muslim captives he had, gave them weapons, and asked their help against the Slavs. They did so, repelled the Slavs, and drove them away from Constantinople. When the Byzantine king saw that, he feared the Muslims for his own safety, so he sent them back, took the weapons from them, and dispersed them throughout the lands, wary of their turning against him.
